Mirror issue

OK, I'm more or less looking to hear if anyone has had this issue before and I'll try my best to explain it fully.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab with factory tow mirrors - the kind that flip out for tow and then back in for daily driving. Had only had the truck a short while when I picked up my TT (Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8329SS) so had not used the mirrors in the tow position, or at least not while towing anything. While setting them up I noticed that, no matter how wide I tried to set the passenger side mirror, I could not see down that side of the TT - at all. All I really can see is the face of the TT. The driver side is perfect and I can see well down that side of the TT but the other side...no. The drive home wasn't bad because my wife had a decent view down the passenger side but it was frustrating not being able to see, basically, at all down the one side. Once home, backing up was a bit of a chore but, again, not all that bad.

Now I'm a short guy so when I lean over to the passenger side I don't get over as far as some others but I can't imagine that a taller person would fare that much better. I also know that I can get extensions for the mirror or replacements but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

The original owner of the TV had a fifth wheel so I would imagine he could see, at least somewhat, but I never met him so I can't ask.

Any thoughts gang? Not just on what to do but, have you experienced this at all?
  • My tow mirrors are great, I did do a WONDERFUL upgrade on mine though. I found a place that sells 2010 style mirrors for the 3rd gen Dodges!! They have the full length concave sections like the 2010 and up that are adjustable and are not terribly expensive. For less than 400.00 I got the power mirror, heated with marker lights and power fold in!!

    power folder tow mirrors

What Dave H M said. The mirror glass might have manually been pushed in. They only have so much travel when power adjusting them. Power adjust the mirror all the way out then push on the glass and see if you can get it to adjust out more.
X-2. I have the same truck except a 2500 and my tow mirrors will really adjust a long ways to the right in power mode.

  • Never had a problem seeing out of the passenger side mirror on my Ram or have I heard of any of my 100+ drivers ever having a problems.
How short are you? Do you have the seat up so far that the mirror just doesn't have the adjustment to travel in enough?
Why are you leaning over to look out of the mirror? All it should take is a turn of the head to see out the mirrors.
Do you have the mirror arm pushed out all the way and not half way in between folded in and folded out?
  • That sounds like and adjustment issue.

i assume they are power adjust. I would go over there and manually push on it with my hand. Don't know about the dodge but my ford would kinda make a ratcheting sound and that would get it back to where I wanted it.
