Mobil Home Title in California

This is not really an RV question, but I'm getting desperate for an answer, and I know there is a LOT of knowledge floating around here.

My elderly mom lived in a mobile home in California before becoming disabled and needing nursing care full time. The paperwork (certificate of title) has gone missing. We are trying to get a new one so we can sell/dispose of the property that is running up bills. The sticking point is the "decal number". What is this, and where besides the missing title might this number exist?

Tiger4x4RV, thank you. I finally found some old documents that have the numbers. We've resubmitted the paperwork. The park where the mobile home is located is being anything but helpful. They refused to help shut off power, they refused to do anything that requires one of them go out of their way, even slightly. They have no problem applying huge late fees though. 🙂

You guys are great! Happy Camping!

You said that the mobile home is "running up bills." Does that mean it is in a mobile home park? If yes, perhaps the park manager would photograph the decals or tags for you. If that approach does not work, PM me with exact location and I'll see if I can help. I don't live down there any more, but do have some contacts.

Sorry. I should have been more clear. Unfortunately, we are in north Idaho, close to the Canadian border. The mobile home is very near the Mexican border. We are a LONG way apart, and I have no contacts in the area. We've played phone tag with some extremely unhelpful ca.gov employees. I'll look over the suggestions made here.

Thanks for the feedback!

When I lived in a mobile home in CA we got a license plate and each year a renewal sticker for it just like a travel trailer or car. Look to see if there is a plate and look for the sticker number on the plate.

I own and live in a mobile (AKA manufactured) home in California. The decal is on each half of my 2014 double-wide. Older homes had license plates like cars. Newer homes have to pay property taxes to the county every year. The older ones had the registrations renewed every year through the DMV. Some of my neighbors still have the older style, so apparently there was no changeover; each home just kept whatever type of registration it was born with.

I think that the following document will answer your questions. Or, if it does not, it has phone numbers for contacts. Good luck!

Here in NC there is a information sheet, for lack of a better term, that is attached to the wall of the MH somewhere. It displays the wind zone, insulation contained in the unit and other info pertaining to the particular unit. I have mostly seen this display in the utility room area but also seen them inside the cabinets. Don't know what a decal number is but I would look for this fact sheet. Unfortunately I have also seen people paint over the info. It is important here because of wind zone rating. Must be a certain rating to be in a hurricane zone. Good luck
