I know that there are complaints that many times the OP doesn't follow up and report the outcome of their post. I want to report that today after 16 weeks I finally got a title for my motorhome. It took a lot of pushing people to act but it finally got released. Thanks to those of you who provided info to me. Tom

It seems like 5 or 6 weeks is the typical time and if Lazydays had not lost the original title that would have been the case in this instance. It's just that their attitude after losing the original seemed to become like the IRS and the missing emails. Now I am venting Dyngbld.

Here is the history youโ€™ve been asking for. In Feb we attended the Tiffin Rally in Sarasota, and after talking to Bob Tiffin and Danny Inman we convinced ourselves to update from our 04 Allegro Bay. A quick search at Lazydays in Tampa located a slightly used 13 Allegro with 1700 miles from original owners in Alabama that was being traded at the March FMCA Rally in Perry Ga. We cash and trade purchased the unit in March at Tampa, with the understanding the outstanding loan was paid and the title would follow in 2 weeks.

After not receiving anything from Lazydays I inquired on 5/2 as to what the status was and they said they had sent it UPS 2nd day air on 4/24. Tracking the UPS system indicated it was never picked up at Lazydays. After a week of arguing with the LD Title Dept. they agreed to obtain a duplicate title from Ala.

Finally after 5 more weeks I received replacement certificate that I took to the SC DMV who immediately rejected its validity. After two visits SCDMV accepted the replacement title into their system, which places it in a national data base where it would not clear because it was challenged due to a discrepancy. SC said I needed to get Lazydays to straighten it out, the LD Title Dept said it was my problem and I needed to get SC to straighten it out. After 15 weeks I still have been able to get a clean title, even though I have contacted 2 of the top three officers at Lazydays.

OK so your question was more venting then an actual question. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree it shouldn't take that long, like I said I had mine in 5 minutes, and I suspect yours normally wouldn't have taken very long either. Sounds like you might want to talk to a lawyer, might cost you a few bucks, but should be able to get your unique situation solved.

Actually I was trying to collect comparative data on how long it should take, to use in any later negotiation, not venting. You all asked for more detail so I provided it. Thank you to those of you who provided the information.

Wish I could say that

Why won't you give us more info so we can inform you.
For example if it was a used unit the dealer took in trade he may not have paid off the loan balance (if any) right away so the dealer may not have been able to apply for your title immediately. So sans more info help cannot be provided

Some states don't issue titles and hold them electronically. Regardless if they are paid or not. You can request a paper title but if you don't you can wait until the cows come home it won't come.

Depends on where you are buying and where you are titling the vehicle. It also depends on whether the vehicle is new or used, and whether it has a title in the place where you bought it.

I had the old title in my hand the day I chose to buy my last vehicle, and made my title application the next day when I had proof of insurance. I've also had to wait up to two months for paperwork in another state to clear, before I could get a title in my own state. That one involved paying off a lien to get the title from the lien holder (my own state does not do it that way).

Once the application is sent in, here I usually get an new title in less than a week, as soon as my excise tax check clears. I've bought in another state where a vehicle does not leave the dealer without at least a temporary title.

Are you asking how long to get an old title on a used vehicle, or how long to process a title transfer or a new title? For a used vehicle, that is two different steps, and the time it takes depends on the procedures used by each state involved.

That is not true, some states are title holding states and some are not. Some states the owner will receive his title but it will just show a lien on it to protect the lien holder.

Several years ago we purchased a truck camper from a dealer in Indiana (to be titled in our home state of MO) Dealer said 6 to 8 weeks for the title. We got it in 7.
