My 5.3 mileage

Maiden voyage for our Trail Lite Trek 272BHS. Round trip to the campground and back was 85.0 miles. Terrain was fairly flat with rolling hills. Wind was a constant 15mph.

TV was my 2003 Silverado ex cab 4x4. 5.3 with 3.73 gears and WD Hitch. Pulled this load well. I would guess I was at 7000#s. Trailer dry is supposedly 6000#s. Speed was 60 mph.

85.0 miles/9.3 gallons = 9.139 mpg

Next year looking to upgrade to, oh my gosh, 2500 Ram CC 6.4. Can't believe I have set my mind on a Ram but my dad hasn't had any issues with his 3500 DRW Cummins. Really like the pricing on these for what you get in the truck.

    It'll do 17 easily on flat terrain. Hills and wind, expect 16. My last highway trip averaged 18.8 mpg at 68 mph.

    I have been following the 6.4 Hemi saga. I am hoping the mpg you post is correct. My experience with the computer calculated mpg has been a little on the high side, about 1mpg. I am more interested in empty highway mpg. My 5.3 gets 17.0 on a good run at 70mph. If the Hemi can pull 15-16 empty I would be happy. 17 and I would do cartwheels.

    About 21000 GCW (correction - It weighed in at just under 20k)

    I got this over 291 miles:


    And no, I didn't go 62 mph the whole time, that's an average over almost 5 hours where I made a couple fuel and bathroom breaks and because of this, had to do some city driving. Cruise was set at about 68 mph.
