- mleekampExplorerWhy was someone riding in the trailer? Did I read that right? My goodness, I thought that was illegal. Regardless, not a good idea.
- bgumExplorerA real shame. In many states illegal and never a good idea. This applies to humans and animals. They took a risk and lost. Now must live with the aftermath for years. They are in our prayers.
- It may be legal in SOME states, BUT should be ILLEGAL in ALL states.. There is no good reason to ride in the back of a towable....

Perhaps the truck had 5 seats and there were 6 people? Apparently legal is some states but with other requirement like seat belts and safety glass? - CA_TravelerExplorer IIIIn one article 23 states allowed riding in a towable with various state conditions like seat belts, travel trailer vs 5er, etc.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIYou're probably more likely to be injured riding in a motor vehicle than riding in a trailer. Lots and lots of motor vehicle accidents, trailer accidents, not so much. Just boils down to your risk factor.
- LwiddisExplorer IISince so few ride in a trailer, how could anyone determine a human "risk factor?"

Exactly, so how can people rant that it's certain death to do so.
I wouldn't do it but there are some major over reactions on this thread.
If you've seen a typical Motor Home crash, it doesn't look any better but people will tell you to buy one because you can make lunch and use the toilet while cruising at 70mph. - fj12ryderExplorer III

To me the chances of having a trailer accident is very small, hence I would put the risk factor pretty darned low since if you don't have an accident, you're unlikely to be hurt riding in it. Personally, I simply couldn't do it, but Peggy likes to ride back there. But I do try to discourage the prospect, just makes me uncomfortable.

"Your millage may vary".. Some states are rather strict about people in trailers or the bed of a pick up.. Others are not..
Side note and story: I recall the screams when Michigan passed a seat belt and child restraint laws (no won't go into that)
The story One parent wrote about how much they hated the child seat law.. How it caused all sorts of problems cause with that big child seat in the truck there was not enough room for the entire family and so on and so forth.
Till the truck ran off the road and the infant in the child seat.. NOT EVEN A BRUISE..
Another story: Child restraint law at this point but no Seat belt: Rollover.. Multiple dead. Baby, in child seat, covered in blood.. ALL BELONGING TO ADULTS. Baby not even scratched. (That one I dispatched troopers to).
Another story: (Still no seat belt law) 4 people in car. 3 laughed at 4th who buckled up.. Car crashed.> The one with the buckled belt got a split lip and 3 funerals to attend. (She was my daughter's babysitter).
