Need Dinghy Ideas, but not a Truck/Jeep/SUV

Hello All, and I apologize in advance if this has been covered, but I couldn't find specific ideas for cars.

We plan to probably get DH a new car in the next few months (new to him, as we usually buy newer used vehicles), and we'd like it to be something that can be towed four down behind our older 1995 Four Winds 29' class C. We definitely don't want a truck/SUV/Jeep of any kind, and most of the vehicles I'm finding info on are in this category.

We'd prefer:
* Very good gas mileage, as DH drives a 75 mile round trip commute to work through city traffic, mainly on highways.
* Comfortable for 2 (not tall) adults and two preteen boys for day trips.
* I prefer an automatic, but DH prefers manual and I'd need to learn how to drive it!

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a 2013 list of cars that are towable 4-down...plenty of choices.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I would definitely prefer an automatic transmission, although DH prefers manual. I will just need to learn to drive one, lol!

Subaru's like the Outback, Legacy, Forrester, and Impreza's with manual tranny's can be towed 4 down without any modification. Has to be a stick tho.
I currently tow a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek XV which is basically an Impreza on steroids.

My Mini Clubman gets over 40 mpg and has room for your boys. But it is a manual transmission, don't know if that matters or not.

Try a 2004-2006 Scion Xb with manual transmission, will hold 5 people, light weight, approx. 2500 lbs, gets about 34mpg highway. No towing restrictions, rides well.

I would NEVER surprise him with a car!!! I'm looking for suggestions from what the experienced RVers on here have used, and any other places I can find this type of info. Where could I find lists, in what camping magazines? Thanks!

I definitely, really , really would not surprise him. Give him the lists from the camping magazines and ask him to shop for what he wants. There is about 32 different answers and each one requires owner commitment to do some tasks while hooking up.
