new to WD hitch with some questions

Hello, I recently purchased a 22' Sun Valley Apache TT. TV is a 92 Chevy silverado SWB. when I hook it up the TV sags LOW. So I went and purchased an EAZLIFT Round bar WD Hitch(used). Im having some trouble hooking it up correctly or what I assume is correctly. I will include pics to show what I am having a dilemma on.

First Due to the welded angle brackets for the propane tanks, I cannot position the chains vertical, they are angled towards the back. Is this OK?

Second should the Bars be parallel with trailer frame?mine Hooked up as seen in pics seem to be angled up. The rear of the TV is an inch lower than unhooked and a 1/2 inch higher at the front bumper.

I am heading out on a trip this coming Friday. just want to make sure I have it hooked up right and safe. Thanks in advance

Hi Bryan and Welcome to the forum !!!

There are tons and tons of advice on the various dials/knobs adjusting any of today's WD Hitch systems. My advice is to understand the goal of it all and then step back to take a bigger picture vision of what you have, in order to see where you need to go with the various dials/knobs/etc...

Goal is to transfer enough weight back to the TV's front axle as per your TV OEM's instructions. In the old days, just dropping the TV evenly was the rule of thumb...but today's OEMs have added many new factors. Like the suspension types and methods of transfer, etc to make that old rule of thumb obsolete (though on my 21 year old Sub, it is what I do)

And...
  • First, weigh your TV, ready to go RV'ing
  • Get your trailer's actual weight, both total and tongue
  • You need that actual tongue weight to purchase the proper WD Bars
  • Gather your TV ratings: GVWR, front/rear GAWR, GCWR
  • Do the simple math with these actual weights vs your TV's ratings
  • If out of spec/ratings...decide if you believe in your OEM's ratings or not...to then decide where to go from there
  • Get the TV front to whatever your OEM says to do
  • Get your trailer tongue's actual weight into a 12%-15% range
  • Trailer tongue level at its highest pointing to pointing slightly down (my preference)

Then read up on how all of these dials/knobs/adjustments/etc work and affect/effect the setup

Ask tons of questions, post pics, etc

Anything, or most anything can be moved and re-welded. Even lifted enough to both get out of the way and leave room for the swing of whatever

Also, know that what works for one...does NOT mean it is a one size fits all metric... Just know what it is supposed to do and if it applies to 'you'...have seen newbies are going in circles following some of the various advice thinking it is a one size fits all thing...the basis for commenting that it is the goal that you need to know before trying all of the dials/knobs/adjustments/etc...

It is very easy to post pictures on our forums. Here is an easier way than using the picture posting icon mentioned earlier.

One of our moderators, 1492, developed this app to post your pictures. It works for other internet sites also. There is no need to have a separate hosting site for your pictures in order to use it.

It is very simple to use.
1. Upload your picture from your computer to the app.
2. Copy the resulting URL.
3. Paste that URL into your post without ANY changes. No additions or deletions.

Your picture will then appear in your post and be properly sized for use on our forums.:)

I would remove the propane bottle holder with a grinder and mount a new one like this. It will mount to the A frame with screws. I have one just like it and it works.

I have one I took it off before I took the pics. I will get out the grinder tomorrow and start fabricating. Thanks.

I had obstructions. The extra long set screws hit the welded cross brace. I shortened the set screws so the lift bracket could be placed right up against the cross brace. The propane bottle bracket was screwed to the A frame, so I moved it up against the power tongue jack. The chains are not vertical, but almost.

The bars should be parallel to the frame. Adjust the tension by tilting the hitch head by adding or removing washers.

It's up to seven washers now. With 780 lb. tongue weight, it is now returning 89% of the lifted weight to the steer axle.
