no 12volt power from batteries

Big Country 5th wheel 2009.when power goes out i have no 12volt lights. When i have power the 12 volts lights work. What would be the problem. Thanks in advance
  • Could be in the convertor or invertor system. Check the connections and fuses. Had the same issue before when the 12v circuits only worked when I had 12v from the battery. Shore power worked till battery power was drained, started the engine and we had 12v again. We ran the engine all night for the control panel to work as we needed the ac. We spent the AM at a VR dealer as they replaced the invertor/convertor system.
  • Thermal break. Should be near the batteries. Basically a non burnable fuse.
  • Get a battery load testor. Tells you the voltage & health of the battery.

Simply reading 12.4 on a charged battery does not necessarily mean it is healthy.
  • Either

Dead battery? That would be my first guess.

    is right.
  • I had the same problem. Turns out I had a panel on the belly of my trailer that housed a fuse (blown) between the battery and the power converter. The tongue jack and the slide had their own connection, so they worked on battery.

Need to get you a multimeter and start at the battery terminals and see where it stops.

The battery terminals will read 12.6-7VDC if fully charged and not have the shore power connected. It it reads less than 12.0VDC then your battery is 50% charged or dead. This will jump to 13.6VDC when you hookup to shore power telling you all is OK and your battery is being charged.

Sounds like you have a disconnect between the 12VDC distribution panel and the battery. It appears to be good between the 12VDC distribution panel to the converter/charger that comes on when you plug into shore power.
