North Carolina, VA storm alert

Anybody traveling or camping in the North Carolina & Virginia area next weekend (Oct. 3 & 4) might want to keep an eye on tropical storm Joaquin about to head up the coast - though right now it is showing a track far out towards Bermuda. It's expect to become a hurricane. As always these early predictions are very iffy and it could go anywhere.

From my days back in that part of the country I seem to remember large areas of heavy rain and miserable conditions from those storms.

Stay safe.

Looks like it will cover most of NC with more rain, and wind, even if it comes ashore in North east NC. Bad thing is. We have had so much rain in the past 2 weeks, the ground is really soft. And that is when the wind blows down trees. so be careful, and watch the storm. Don't setup under any trees

We are currently in Ashland NH where we had about 4" of rain over night. I am keeping an eye on the creek that runs next to but significantly below our campsite. We intend to travel to Boston MA tomorrow but with a storm approaching we may just sit tight and wait it out.

Hope the best for those in that area. If you get an evacuation order, LEAVE. Hurricanes are no fun!

We are only 1.5 hours from the Outer Banks so I am keeping a watchful eye out as well. So far we have been spared but sooner or later we will get one. Even if it stays off the coast Hatteras Island will get a beating just like Atlantic and Newport has already.

Was looking at all of the models this morning and it looks like the storm is tracking more to the west and could come ashore in the Virginia area but these long range runs can change every model run. Good luck to all in that area.

Holden Beach here, about 30 miles N of MB SC. Yeah, it is going to be a wet week. Been raining of and on for the last week. Just watched the news and forecast is 60-80% thru Sunday. Storm looks like it will stay west on us, wind wise, so other than rain may not be too bad. Good thing since tide in our canal was record high this week due to the full moon. Highest non storm tide I have seen in years.

I guess Riverfest in Wilmington NC will not have a good weekend. Bummer, it always draws a big crowd.

And it is a "Super" Moon as well. Meaning that the moon is closer to the Earth than normal. Flooding from extra high tides all over the NC Coast

Traveling to Natural Bridge VA area. Hopefully it will not come that far inland. Even if it stays offshore it still looks like a wet weekend. Oh well, a wet weekend camping is still better than a dry weekday working.

Safe travels.

Its calling for 6 inches of rain Sat / Sunday (Oct 3/4th) in the Roanoke VA area & we are already seeing flooding from this rain .....that would cover the Natural Bridge area as well........

Um, I live there, and we are having flash flood watches NOW, Tuesday, Sept 29. My property includes a creek, Li'l 'Possum Creek (and yes, it does flow into Big 'Possum creek, thence into the James River.) It was out of it's banks for a bit this afternoon. We've gotten 4 inches of rain according to my rain gauge since sunup this morning, and more is expected tonight and tomorrow.

There are roads underwater in the Roanoke area, suggesting that Natural Bridge will be having the same issues. @DavidP, I'd be using the 'phone before heading this way, if I were you.

All it has to do is track a bit more westward than currently predicted and we will have a messy, wet weekend. I'm currently in the Tidewater area.
