Oh my, getting old

I have traveled with various motor homes from the West to the East, Alaska, and the far East of Canada,
I Loved every minute of it and my wife also.
But now, my age and my wife's disabilities preclude me from this life style. 81 Yr. old.
My oh my, how I hate to realize, that its at and end.
From when we were married at 21 yr. old, tents to now.
Gotta let go my beautiful Winny Journey.
I almost cry, such it was my longing for a diesel pusher, and it has served me well for 12 years.
I know all has to come to an end sometime, but tears in my eyes as it has come to me.
Good luck and happy travels to you all. I know I had mine.

Breaks my heart to hear that. The reality is that we are all going to get to that point, IF we're lucky.

Hope you had a great run and wishing you the best!

Holstein13, family issues are going to keep us closer to TN (aging Dad). I know we'll be in Florida late fall. Asheville early fall.

We'll keep in touch with you folks if we end up in the 'eastern' part of the USA.

Safe travels,

Thanks for posting. You've only confirmed my choice to full-time and see the country at 49 years old in a diesel pusher. I certainly hope we can meet again. I'm currently in NYC at Liberty Harbor, then off to Asheville, then back to NY. I plan to do the Northeast this summer. What are your plans? I still haven't seen your coach.

I think it is SO neat what you are doing for your kids. Your two year trip will be something that they will always remember.

It was nice meeting you and your family in Southern California. Maybe our tracks will cross in Florida one day as my sister and BIL are moving to Ft. Lauderdale for a job transfer. We'll be making more stops in Florida!

Hello Dear Friend, Ron, I have read your post several times and thought about your decision. You have been fortunate to have covered the miles that you have covered and I can appreciate why you have tears in your eyes as you now face putting your decision into effect.
We have not been out of Florida now for three years due to Meredith having been involved in a fall and resulting injury. She is ready to travel this Summer so we can go and introduce ourselves to the two new Great Grand Kids that are both over a year old and have only met them through Face Book.
I am praying for you and your sweet heart, that God will guide you both in this coming next stage. May HE help you in your decisions ahead.
Take care and keep in touch via an occasional e-mail or posting on here. God Speed.
Our very best to you both,
Capt. Chet

I am 6 years your junior and last year got some scary health news, even worse that the cancer diagnosis, I have back problems and find sitting for long periods very painful. I have mentioned the attitude benefits of sitting in my captains chair, wheel in hand, GPS and maps at the ready, dash cam recording and a smile on my face from the prospect of seeing more of our beautiful country. We took a little ride from storage to our S&B and when I got there, I felt like I was 40 or 50 again.

I can't wait for the new carpeting and tile flooring to be installed so I can turn everything back on and get out and see old friends and some we don't know yet. Like my tagline says, "The great affair is to go."

Good luck with finding more and greater happiness from here on.

Wow, I know what you mean, we are 70 and I just retired this year with hopes of doing some snow birding. We have gone to Texas for a short time in the winter for several years and were hoping to go for longer, BUT, last year we missed because my wife fell and broke her hip, this year she had cancer surgery in Jan. so we missed again. Still hoping to get to do it but you just never know! I would love it if we could do it up to 81 but I know we would still hate to have to quit at any age.

Boy do I understand!

Iโ€™m 73 and planning a 7000 mile motorcycle trip, across the horizontal plane of Canada. Iโ€™m going to get all those providences colored in on my map before I cash in. And then down to Ohio to see daughter possibly for the last coherent time.

But let me say this about that. Iโ€™ve worked Intensive Care for several decades. I have seen a lot of people work their whole life just for retirement; so they can travel, and then die 6 months after quitting the job.

YOU ARE WAY AHEAD OF THE GAME!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I know the feeling being closer to 70 now, but whenever I am temped to complain about growing old I think of all my friends and family that never got that opportunity. I just spent a month in MD with my SIL her husband just died at 66, it was a hard for her.

Well, I know we'll all reach that point one day whether it's at 55 or 95 yrs. old. You just never know what life is going to throw at you. At 56 yrs. old, 81 seems young but mature. I have several friends in their late 80's and early 90's that are going strong. I don't know if I'll be in that condition but you never know.

If our 'bigger' coach starts to feel too big, I'll downsize. If I can't drive across the country, which I truly enjoy, I was thinking about buying one of those private plane plans as flying commercial is a total pain in the 'you know what'.

I would think it might be a good time to start taking a lot of cruises, which we have taken and have enjoyed in the past. Train trips are fun too.

Safe travels,
MM.

Bless you, sounds like you guys got the "best mileage" out of your RVing adventure. We are only in our 60's, but I hope someday we can post a similar comment to what you have posted!

I'm about to turn 70 and I'm single. I drive a 'C' and pull a Jeep Wrangler toad. The steps seem to be higher than I remember them and I need to add more driving direction details than I used to, but when I get to the point when its too much trouble, I'll quit traveling. I like having my "stuff" with me.
I traveled for the company during my working years ("Retired" @ 52"). Even high end hotels are too filthy to remove your shoes. The walls are only slightly thicker than a bed sheet and I was always next to a loudmouth drunk. The sheets get changed every second or third day, even though the price doesn't change. And eating in a restaurant by yourself is really boring.
I was flying in increasingly smaller seats, even in first class. And since I lived in Cincinnati, I had to change planes in Atlanta even if I was flying to Dayton, 50 miles north. And rent a car.
And all travel was dependent on weather. So is RVing to some extent, but I don't drive to Alaska in December or Florida in August.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
