Park ratings

I just sent Trailer Life an e-mail regarding their rating system.
In the last couple of years we have observed that the ratings in Trailer Life have become less dependable due to a tendency to substantially overrate many (most?) of the parks.
We just checked in to a park in Nevada that is rated 9.5, 9.5, 9.5.
Ratings of 6.5 would be generous.
I'd like to say this is an isolated incident, but it is not.

I have no problem with TL, but do use RF Park Reviews as well. The latter has to be read carefully, due to the very natural fact, that what one of us likes is not necessarily the same as someone else. You have to read the reviews - not just go by the rating.

I use Trailer Life a lot. I check cleanliness of bathrooms, visual rating, and site widths. I know what my "favorite" campground data is in these areas. By using this comparison, I find the ratings to be pretty accurate all over the country. I also consult RV Park Reviews, but I find too many of them "whiny" about something that really doesn't interest me.

Rate them as you see them. I don't know anyone that uses trailer life as a guide. Good luck.

In the past I've thought their ratings were biased towards those CG's that advertised with them, pr that they hoped would buy ad space. Because of that I stopped looking at their reviews. Try rvparkreviews.com, although I think sometimes the CG inserts an "unbiased" review.

In the book, (and I assume it is also online) is their ratings scorecard. It is a scorecard almost entirely composed of factual items that relate to whether or not an amenity exists, not whether or not it is particularly nice, necessary or useful. Several things that get points are things like a pool, a sign, a manned office, fenced for security etc. It doesn't allow for an opinion if the pool is large, the sign attractive, the office staff nice or if that fence is a classic wrought iron fence or quality rail fencing or if it is rusted barbed wire. If you were to score the park exactly as called for by the scorecard, leaving your opinions at home, you will generally get a very similar score. The scores are not meant to score the appeal of the park, it is meant to score the amount of the amenities.
