People sure are getting petty with their park reviews

I thumbed through the recent reviews at campgroundreviews.com and noticed that several of the 1 star reviews were pretty dang petty. One was upset because they left their handgun in a cabin when they checked out and the park owner wasn't thrilled to have an unattended, loaded, firearm laying around. The poster went on to rant about they had a concealed carry permit and how the park's website didn't put they prohibited firearms in bold print, instead it was but one of a number of rules on their rule page. I don't know what having a carry permit has to do with leaving a weapon laying around since by definition it isn't being carried, but what do I know.
In another review, the reviewer was upset because they were asked to move their car off the grass. The reviewer went so far as to claim they measured how much they were on the grass and that amount was one inch. They neglected to post how much on the grass they felt was OK. Both of those parks otherwise had consistent excellent reviews. Is it just me or does it feel like people are becoming more self centered on a daily basis.

I agree with these posts. The thing I have to admit is that I usually read the one star reviews first. It's like I want to hear the BS, even though I know better.
There is something special about camping in an RV.

i look for consistency on cleanliness and bathroom reviews. things like "loud & obnoxious neighbors" you take with a grain of salt. that could have been one occasion on a holiday weekend. Who can really control that? park rangers can but if you've got a large group there to party it is what it is to an extent. it doesn't mean it happens all the time. could have just been a cranky camper.

When I read reviews where the scale is ratings from 1-5, I pay closest attention to the 2's and 4's. Lots of 2's? Probably not staying there. Many more 4's? I'm likely booking it. Mostly 3's? I might really like the place, I might hate it. 1's are people that are miserable no matter what or they some sort of beef with management in many instances. 5's are either campground personnel or a hired service flooding the web page or campers that always see the glass as being half full. Even when they hit their thumb with a hammer I am so fortunate that I didn't get hit by a car today so I could experience this thumb pain.

This is nothing new. It's been going on forever. Only difference is 15-20yr ago with the advent of widespread internet reviews, you can see more of it.

Generally the 'star' rating is taken with a huge grain of salt. Read thru why people had issues and see if those issues are consistent with what you would care about.

We stopped posting to campgroundreviews.com. We had a reservation and when we arrived, the campground acknowledged the reservation but said they were full and they weren't going to do anything for us...our review was rejected because we didn't actually stay at the campground.

This reminds me I have to go on and give a bad review for the campground I stayed at over the 4th. I mean, what kind of campground lets me blow a tire on the way there?

By the way, it wasn't the campgrounds fault and I would highly recommend Trap Pond State Park in Delaware.

I agree with the OP and others, but this is nothing new, I've been seeing it for some time, like the one that gave a CG a poor rating because it rained for most of their stay, :R CG owner should have foreseen this possibility and covered the entire CG. :S
Or the one that complained about the leaves in their site in a fully forested CG. :S
Other than comedy value, I give those type of reviews no credibility at all.

Stupidity often spawns negativity.

Was recently reviewing a generator on Amazon and noticed a 1-star review, claiming noisy and unacceptable fumes.

Um, the idiot tested the generator in the basement of his home and later in his post claimed it toxified his entire home and don't buy, it's junk.

Oh, purchased the generator.
It's quiet and I can't smell it.....outside.

For the campground ones, I think some of them are newbies that took up camping this summer since they couldn't go to Disneyworld. So they expect all the campgrounds to be like visiting Disneyworld.

It's the American way, everything is the fault of someone else.
And, many people get up in the morning looking for something to whine about or something that offends them.
