People who let their dogs bark constantly...

What do you do about them? I seriously don't get the disrespect of some neighbors, fill me in so I understand. The culprits are both young and old. I tend to confront them.

Some people just can't get it through their head that other people may not want to hear their dog(s) barking.

On the other hand, I hate it when a dog sees a stranger and barks - then the dog's owner screams at the dog to "SHUT UP!". I never understood that. Yes, continuous barking is bad, but I've always thought part of a dog's "job" is to warn when unusual things are happening. I actually appreciate it in my neighborhood when a neighbor's dog gives some "who's there?" barks at strangers.

Having said that, in a busy campground, you can't have a dog even doing the "who's there?" bark at strangers, as the dog ends up barking all day long.

If the dog's owner can't stay with the dog to keep it company, then don't bring the dog camping!!

The world is full of noises we have little control over. Don't like something then move... New location will have some other annoyance.

I agree with the concept that there are annoyances everywhere but why should the OP have to disrupt himself when the issue is not his? People who let their dogs bark, let their kids scream, blast loud music, etc. are just like bullies. If don't address the behavior in some manner (i.e., talking politely to them, leave a note at their site when they are gone, talk to cg management) then it will just continue. I'm not advocating jumping on every little thing because yes, there are "annoyances" almost everywhere you go. Some can be controlled, some can't, but you can't fix an issue if you don't address it.

It is the ignorant non considerate dog owners who let their dog(s) bark all the time.
Unfortunately you'll never change them.

In the RV park where we snow bird, if they are barking after quiet hours, they get a warning, and then if it continues they are kicked out

Good question. I love dogs, but it's tough to tell people that they are lazy and don't deserve to be animal owners. Dogs that bark all the time arnt happy. They need exercise, attention, and discipline. I've worked with some other people's dogs after their per.ission, but usually the owners are the ones that need the work, and I don't have the patience for that.

How has that 'confront them' worked out for you?




Private CG, public CG, State/National/COE cgs.......there is SOMEBODY on 'duty'

Inform them and let them deal with the issue.
That's what 'camp hosts' get the big bucks for :B

Recently, a new neighbor moved in. They are renting and the owner won't let dogs in the house, so their dog is in the backyard at night and when they are gone. The dog would start barking at around 5:30 a.m. and keep it up until I let my dogs out back. Then the dogs would have a "chat" and it'd get quiet.

I didn't complain about the barking. Instead, I bought a kong toy. One day, I went out and started talking to the dog through the fence. The neighbor heard and came out. We talked about how nice the dog is. Then, as an afterthought, I said "you know, a friend bought my dogs a kong toy, but my little one is food aggressive so I can't let them play with it. Would you like it for your dog? I hear him playing with his food bowl in the morning and he might like something to play with during the day."

Well, she accepted the toy. We are friendly and get along great. And the dog doesn't bark all morning anymore.

While the kong toy may not work in your circumstance, the point is that often you can get a solution by simply approaching it differently. Most people will go on the defensive if you make a complaint (even if justified) against their own (kids, pets, work product, etc.). Instead, by trying to slip a solution in without mentioning the problem, you can often bypass that defensive stance and get resolution.

Some people are just stupid and as they say "You cant fix stupid". They are probably the same ones who dont pick up after their dogs. They're special, reglur ole people pick up.
