Perhaps one should practice a little.

That's Entertainment. A huge shiny Airstream arrived being pulled by a new GMC 2500 Duramax at the campground shortly before dark. They had reserved a pull through dorectly across from us. Nothing is close to level in the campground.

10 trys to get the trailer on some blocks to do his side to side leveling. Its tough when you pull up with the truck at a 45 degree angle to trailer, set the blocks, then attempt to back onto them. I offered to help and was told no thanks, rather unpolitely I might add.

So after 11 tries and much husband and wife arguing, they gave up and switched sites to a back in. A half dozen tries and a full hour and a half after arrival later. Oh brother. This guy is actually on the highway with other vehicles around?
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

Yep - this forum has devolved since I joined. New members don't hang around for too long. They come and ask a simple question, and then people start asking about their setups, then the floodgates open when the OP dares to have a different method for doing something that the old guard on here simply cannot comprehend. After the OP has been gone to never return they post head scratching emoji wondering where they aren't replying. Examples are to numerous to mention - one only has to be a regular reader. And coincidentally, they are the same old posters - over and over defending their turf against all newcomers.

Not sure what level of satisfaction one gets from sitting in a CG and reporting the actions of others on an internet forum.


Hahaha, well said and on point to your observations -- some even suggested I buy a more expensive, supposedly less noisy generator I did a thorough research and noise-testing to see that my genny is compliant, lol.

In one thread, a fellow RVer got slammed on running a junk (I don't know how they concluded that) because he wants to run within the speed limits or lower.

Oh well, part of the fun anyways.

Sorry, it might be in reference to someone on another thread about someone putting poop on someone else's generator even if it's running within the noise levels and outside quiet time of the campsite.

The thread has just been closed with the hotheaded chimed in.

Now I'm think of another controversial topic to open, lol (no, not Walmart parking again).

I can't see why the old guy offended you. He sat and watched at first as many of us of all ages would do because nowadays folks are afraid to intrude. Many people don't want to admit they need help. Then he offered his help and you refused. He laughed and said that's why he keeps his old RV. That had absolutely nothing against you. He was trying to help and then tried in include some humor.

I agree no one wants to be spoken to in a condescending manner/tone.
However you are green and inexperienced vs. the older seasoned campers.
Don't take it personally. Learn to ignore the infuriating tone and listen to the message. Listening is the key. Focus on what they are saying, not necessarily how they are saying it.
There is a certain wisdom in life that you only achieve through age and experience.
There is no substitute for experience or aged learning.
I was 30 once and considered myself a wise person and to some degree I was. But boy did I have a lot to learn.


Who says we are "green and unexperienced". Yes, it was our first trip with our new 5er, but we weren't unexperienced campers as we had owned a travel trailer before that, and my husband grew up camping with his family in a travel trailer. People (mostly older ones) just assume we are because we are young, and talk to us like we are dumb (much like your condescending comment), that's the point I'm getting at.

We don't often camp in RV parks or places that frown upon it. If we were, we obviously wouldn't be trimming the trees. We've used the trimmers on FS land while boondocking though.

I never had any issues even when starting out. but when you offer desperately needed help and they refuse, then its open season!

Completely different issue than the arrogant, self-righteousness being displayed on here. If you try and they refuse you just walk away. End of story. And watch out-pride (and bragging!) goeth before the fall!

I'm the nerd that bought a dozen cheap traffic cones and set up "camp sites" at a gravel parking lot to practice backing up. Still had some bad experiences after that but with time were now smooth operators.

I feel horrible seeing or hearing heated conversations while parking especially with kids in the tow vehicle. It does take time, and weve all been there...done that.

This summer I walked over to a neighboring site (uninvited) as a fellow had the back wheels of his truck off the ground and the front of his TT jacked to the sky and the ball still connected. I asked if I could assist as nobody was with him (he was on the phone to his father seeking guidance that hadn't helped). I had him remove the cribbing, cranked the tongue down and flipped the lever FULLY up releasing the ball. He was a happy guy, I was happy to help this new rv owner and life was great. My humanity could not allow him to struggle any longer and it was a simple mistake weve all made getting the ball free from a stubborn hitch still under pressure.

I say offer to help and take no offense when the offer is declined...were all in it together


I was a beneficiary of this kind of help starting out. I can do left entry in one try but have to struggle on the other end (and believe me, I have a small T/T but it's an exponential challenge to those very tight National Park campsites).

I just wish to thank you.

Absolutely. The smugness and condescension here is not good. Even as experienced RVers my husband and I sometimes had trouble. It happens. The fact that so many delight in other's difficulty is disheartening. Yes, I often watched others who were having trouble but from a sympathetic point of view. Captnjack is absolutely correct that it's a learning experience. I have my doubts that many, if any, of us just hopped in our rig and had no issues.

I too love to back into a site that most people can`t get a PuP into. I even had a guy say to me after parking my trailer in one shot "there was a guy that tried and left and aked for another spot because his 20ft trailer wouldn't fit".

Those who can do, and those who can`t complain about them on RV.net!
