Pet peeve, neighbors leave porch light on

This drives us crazy. Nice night and we’d like to leave windows open for air but are forced to close shades tight because of a porch light aiming right at us. You’d think in the close quarters of most RV parks that people could be more considerate

I have what are called "Scare Lights" and that would be RUDE of me to leave them on. They are the big round lights high up on the back corners.

So one person cannot sleep with the light on, the other person cannot sleep with the light off.

It doesn't take learning to figure it out. Just walk past the RV and watch. Does an indoor light go on first? Does the RV move at all? Do you see a face in the window? Does the door open?

If no to all those, then it's likely to be a motion detector light.

And grabbing a cooler, generator, grill, etc, is a quick grab and run. By the time you get out of bed, they're gone with the prize regardless of how the light turned on.

And even if the thief is "startled", they usually come back and try again knowing the light will come on and no one will check it out.

Eh, the same 97.43% success rate with turning the light off, in my experience is 97.43% of the good ole pickup truck drivin, camper campin, red-blooded 'Mericans are NOT the problems on todays roadways and highways.

But purple haired, want to be called by some pronoun like "its", save the world, protest and riot for (insert your cause), or for-ners who are afraid to go more than 54mph in their Kia and don't understand what the left lane is for, or don't care, are the PROBLEM.

LOL, right?

I mean, we're talking about a porch light here, and a little 12V one at that, maybe even yellow so it don't attract bugs. Unless a person is camped T bone to one of those "fancy" trailers with the LED cap lights, or some @sshat like me pull sup with my 10 different LED "flood lights" all around my toy hauler, burning, I'm not feeling the actual distress here.

My suggestion would be a couple extra shots of Bourbon for a night cap and let yer eyelids do their job!

Of course, whether being fickle or not, I would not post on the internet, "OMG I couldn't sleep because of a porch light"
I also wouldn't be a Karen about it either, however a nice chat with the neighbor the next day while talking about non- bitchy stuff, maybe say "Hey bud, your porch light is right next to my bedroom window, and I know we're packed in here like camper sardines, but would ya mind turning it off after you turn in for the night. It's pretty warm and I like to leave my shades open and you don't want the visual of me getting up for my 3am pee break in my whitey tightys, so...please?"

You know, like humans used to do before they could hide behind computer screens and had to actually talk to each other...

Bet you'll have about a 97.43% success rate. And better yet, bring over an extra cold one for the neighbor when asking the question. That way even if he doesn't want to turn it off, he likely will after being shamed by your generosity!

Quiet time in most RV parks I have been in is 10 pm. I would think that means sitting out talking ,lights on etc. I suppose if you guys are whispering sitting in the dark that works, but its doubtful you do .

So now "quiet time" means you need to be inside by the stated time?

I know of a state park that used to be great for astronomy fanatics who used to set telescopes up right near the campsites in an open area. Then they upgraded the loop to full hookup sites and that was the end of that. It now looks like Times Square and attracts an entire different demographic of user, lots of class A's and C's who try and cram into the sites with a high percentage of rude and obnoxious uppity busy bodies for some reason. Even the deer that used to graze in a meadow nearby all night stay away from that area when the place is lit up like Broadway.

Reading comprehension is key here ,you can be anywhere you please ,outside inside , whatever. . What you need to do is shut it down at 10 pm . That means either be quiet outside talking , turn the annoying lights off ,or take it inside if you want to stay up all night, most don't .

The point here is you are not the only one in the RV park , be considerate .

AS I said before I have better things to worry about. My bedroom door closes off the light and we have those "black out" curtains in there. Trust me installed right it is dead black in there with the bright sun out. I do like dark so we live 20+ miles from town, 4 miles from closest neighbor, and no street lights. But complain about lights in a camp ground, not a chance. I live my life and let others do the same.

I live 5 miles outside the city limits. All around me are people with "security lights" 30 feet up on a pole, that are on all night every night. I do not have one; I have never needed a night light. In town, there are street lights every where; one of the reasons why we do not live in town.
When I go camping in the back country, I go to campgrounds where there are no hookups, and no lights. The last thing I want to see is a next door neighbor that must leave a light on all night! One of the reasons for going camping is to get away from light pollution. If you must have a night light, find a well lit RV park with full hookups. It will quite likely be better suited to your needs!

EDIT: I do have a light on top of my flagpole to comply with flag regulations when flying the flag 24/7, and a couple of solar motion sensor lights on the shop. I don't know if anything has ever turned them on. Perhaps they don't even work after all these years.

I've watched videos on Nextdoor and lights don't seem to have any effect on thieves regardless of whether they are motion detecting or not. To me, motion detecting lights are like car alarms - you pay attention at the beginning or after something happens, but after a while you ignore it. Thieves know this and tend to assume you will ignore it as that is more likely. If you are one to check it, they just saunter away.

Even cameras are ignored, or worse, stolen right off the wall.

Camping, I personally prefer using a lantern or two when hanging out and a flashlight when walking around. Both have the positive of being turned off when you go inside for the night.

I sometimes walk my 'hood before daylight. There are a few houses where the motion sensors will trip from somebody in the street. After a few times I get used to them, but at first I was startled. I bet this is the same for others. (Yesterday, the car that lite me up with a flash of brake lights while backup came on got my heart rate up. I don't think driver ever saw me or dog)
With all the street lights, and lights people leave on, walking I don't need a flashlight. (Have a small 1, and a pouch of bags hooked to leash)
In a campground, with a mobile population, do you think the bad actors are going to learn which lights are auto, and which come on because somebody almost saw something?

A question for those that think my eyelids should be all I need to protect me from your lights; Are your eyes so magic that you can see what you light up thru yours and the camper walls?

If I thought it was anywhere near likely that somebody was wondering the CG with bad intentions I would leave or make sure my site was dark as possible, with sticks and chairs at random so they would need a light to get to door. IMHO, a baby monitor in a dark site would be more likely to alert me.

How about those 5th wheels with the V shaped LED lights on the nose... very annoying

I left a polite note on a windshield a month ago. I honestly think they didn't know how to turn them off. New rig and new truck.
I removed them from our 5er when a few burned out. Can't tell that they wherever there.
