Pleated shades, should I tow with them up or down?

We always put them up. The constant bouncing and rattling when they were open drove us nuts. Never had a problem in either the fiver or the Endura.

We have a TT so we don's know what it sounds like back there. However, the TT does have pleated blinds that attach to hooks so that they stay in place in the down position while driving. I don't like leaving the blinds open when we are at stores or rest areas because people can look and and see if there is anything inviting to steal.

On my TT i leave them down, keeps the heat put in the summer.

I have done both.. leave up on shady side, down on sunny side.

Google how to restring shades. The two strings are the easiest, the 3 or 4 strings can get confusing. But it is doable. I kid and say I have a degree in restringing those blinds. Had a friend who did that as a side job while traveling... (think travel expenses..) but it worked for him.

I doubt it makes much difference if any in the longevity of the strings. Things wear out and break down with use and time, and that of course includes twine used for shades.

I have a motorhome and generally drive with them up because I like to be able to see out the windows when driving; it's occasionally helpful for maneuvering in tight corners and such. I do have one that tends to work its way down with vibration and bounces, so even though it starts in the up position it's usually at least partly down when I arrive. Such is life.

We kept the 5er and the TT down when traveling. It keeps the sun out and when we stop it is not so obvious we are not in it.

When we had our MH I put velcro on the sides of the window frames and the opposing piece on the bottom of the shade. Whatever position I put the shades in, that's where they stayed. Otherwise they would rattle and move. In the FW I put them up while travelling. Figure less banging and scratching that way.

During our first year with our fifth wheel, a string broke on our large rear window's pleated shade. It was under warranty, so we took it to the dealer for repair. Well, they will just replace it and they had our rig for over 2 months for it.
We have since had several more break, so I watched YouTube videos, bought a repair kit from the dealer and fixed them myself. Once you understand how they work, it's pretty easy. Like someone above said, you get to be a pro at it.
