I have a 2006 Lincoln Navigator and I am pulling a 2013 Keystone Hideout 28BHS. The Navigator is rated to tow 8300 and the Hideout shipped weight is 6,726 with a carrying capacity of 2969. I took the trailer out this weekend and the Nav did fine. However, it was only loaded for a short 3 day trip (although there are 6 of us). We will be adding some weight as I will be putting in some shelves for clothes and pull out shelves in the pantry.

I am considering upgrading my vehicle to a used Excursion as its diesel and has a 44 gal tank instead of 28 gal. My other option is an Expedition EL. My main concern is that while in the Appalachian Mountains it pulls fine. This summer I will be in the rockies and I don't know how well the Nav will do.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Um, no. That's 8000-8500 pounds loaded. The dry tongue weight at 895 pounds is over your receiver's rating. That's 3/4 ton territory. Excursion V10 or 7.3L, Suburban/Yukon XL 2500 with 8.1L.

So your thoughts are the Navigator will pull it fine?

if on the interstate the grades in the rockies surely will not be a factor as you may invision.
