Prestone rv pink antifreeze

anyone else having problems finding this rv antifreeze in their local walmarts etc?

So you agree. Your asking "why use anything?" ignores the fact that you should use something. Not sure why you said "depends?" Depends on what? Whether you want the RV to stink the next year because the traps are open all winter?

Oh, and oil floats on water so unless you blow out the traps (uck) it really won't displace most of what's in the trap and you're still in danger of freezing. Simpler to just pour in a cup of antifreeze.

Just get one of the new-fangled snow shovels with the funny bent "ergonomic" handle. They are lighter, cheaper, and will accomplish the same thing.

Hi 'yxm. I'd heard of the long method but not the short one. I like it! I'll have to got to the local HD (less than a mile from the house) in December and see if they have them. Hey, maybe I'm already winterized!

I'd be more concerned about water freezing in the trap than some odors.

I'm digging this method! Got a few more years before I can try it.

For 20+ years Wal Mart has been "at war" with name brand EVERYTHING. And, IMO it gets a little worse each year where you often cannot find a legacy brand.

Sometimes, it matters, other times (Like the two safety data sheets above)...the pink stuff is predominately pink stuff- no real chemical difference...one says Prestone, one says Super Tech.

I have not seen the Prestone RV Anti-Freeze in any Walmart I have shopped at for RV Anti-Freeze, but you can buy it on walmart.com. I think they only sell it in a pack of 6 1 gallon containers, so may be more than you need.

I'm suddenly seeing RV antifreeze for sale in retail stores everywhere. Not good. Now I am suddenly depressed because it means the end of the camping season is nigh. 😞

Forget the cheapo alcohol based stuff and get the good stuff that has propylene glycol in it. It won't evaporate, won't taint piping, isn't flammable, isn't toxic and lubricates seals. Costs a bit more but is worth it. I get ours at a local independent RV shop. If you blow your lines out, a jug of antifreeze will go a long way.

There are a number of brands of the PG type. Camco has both types. Sometimes the contents are in teeny weeny print and hard to read. Note that some may contain recycled PG and you want virgin PG.

As i foggily recall. Eons back when this thread was run and the issue of flammability came up, I went out to the barn and splashed some of that "its gonna burn" stuff on the floor and put the propane torch to it. Nada happened. :h

I've been using the SuperTech brand since 2006 and as far as I know it has never caused an issue. I usually buy it by the case at the end of winter and can get it for about $1.50 a gallon since it's end of freeze season.
