I haven't had bronchitis for many years, but today I'm hacking my lungs out at South LaPosa.

I've heard all the rain can wash away topsoil exposing bad things to breathe underneath.

Anybody else have respiratory problems this year?

I'm originally from the desert areas of Southern Cal, and my wife is from Ohio. I'm probably had Valley Fever as a kid and it's never bothered me as an adult. However, five years ago, my wife and I were camping at an elevation of 9,000 feet and she developed a cough and trouble breathing. We left camp early and she headed to the doc when we got home. She had Valley Fever and developed full blown pneumonia from it. She was treated and got better, but there is some lasting lung scarring from it now.

We live in California's central valley. Due to the constant tilling of soil for farming here we have very high levels of dust particles in our air. Valley Fever is quite common. I have lived here for over 40 years and this is the first time I've heard about it in dogs. Thanks for the info rockhillmanor!
We have a lot of people with chest congestion right now, but not sure if it's from VF. We do have a high fungus count due to all the rain. Very interesting reading.

I have lived 55 years in Az. ,everybody one time or other gets Valley Fewer, some never have a problem when they have it. Some have a bad year or two when they come down with it. Dogs do get it, I have had many friend with dogs who have talked about it over the years.

blood test and a chest x-ray can confirm valley fever. Get it. I was diagnosed with Disseminated coccidioidomycosis (valley fever in body tissue other than the lungs) about six years ago. It never goes away. Your immune system will eventually get it under control with the help of anti fungal medicines but it is a life long illness.

Get a blood test ASAP. Hopefully results are negative but if not the sooner you can start an antifungal like diflucan or sporanox the better. I was accurately diagnosed within two weeks of the first symptoms (major swelling of the ankles, knees, and wrist) and still struggled with daily duties for six months.

go get tested! It can be fatal. A friend had it for a year until the doctor at the VA finally tested him for it.

THE reason I never headed out west. Valley Fever.

Dogs will get it before you will AND most vets don't know how to diagnose it and your pet dies and not pleasantly I might add.

I have dogs. So it was a no for me.

My wife contracted valley fever at Q after a really bad wind storm. It took her about 4 months to get over it completely.

Can't comment on "Q" this year but I was over in Parker, Az in October and after getting home I felt congested with flu like symptoms. After weeks(like 6-8 weeks) was finally diagnosed properly with the dreaded "Valley Fever". Not exactly what I planned on bringing back from 3 months on the road.
