Question for the Reese Dual Cam pro's !
OK, so I just purchased a 2005 2500HD CC SB. We went camping the next day. Let me see if I can explain this right.
My hitch measurements are the same from my 2500 Suburban. Truck and camper sit level. I always hooked to the 5th link before, head full tilt. This time on the same link it took more pressure to snap. Truck only squats 1/4 inch without bars. With bars up, front returned to unhitched measurement. However, the rear of the truck felt VERY lite to campground. On the return trip I went to 6 links. (very little effort to snap). Truck rear felt more "planted" but trailer felt a little squirreley.
I have a couple theories.
1. Five links put reverse/upward pressure on the rear of truck making it feel lite in the rear.
2. Six links didn't put enough down pressure on the cams to adequately control sway.
So, trailer may have been tongue light all along but the Burb made up for it being so much heavier in the rear by nature. Full fuel tank alone was over 300 lbs behind axle. I towed this weekend with the truck bed completely empty.
As you know the dual cam is all about minor tweaking and that's all I need, it seems. I'm going to try tilting the head back up a little and hook to 5 links, see how that feels.
Maybe lighter bars? These are 1200 lbs.
