As you are educating yourself, learn about GAWR too. I think it's a much more useful and important number. The Ram 1500 payload can get used up quick, but there is wiggle room. And perhaps that bit of gear can be carried in the trailer. The truck will not come crushing to the ground if you exceed its ratings a little. If you constantly use it that way, it likely won't last as long. It's a hard lesson to learn, and it's too bad that kind of info isn't more obvious or available to the uninitiated. If it were me, I would stick to a lighter trailer, but would not hesitate to go with a 600 lb tongue weight, some of which will get distributed off the rear axle with a weight distributing hitch. Many here will likely condemn this advice. Take it all in and learn.
