Revenge?

After saying that I usually shrug off annoyances in campgrounds - I must confess: I DID get revenge, earlier this spring (wicked grin)

I had gone to a State Park who was honoring a "Dark Skies" week. Several of us were going to take night photos from a small bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. When we first arrived, there was only one other camper in the whole park; then a dozen Frat boys showed up and started unloading tents and cases of beer. They had the whole dang mile-long park to set up - so where did they go? Right next to us - only they set their tents up on the small bluff - the one with the "not a camping space" sign. Ugh.

Fortunately, it was cold, so they must have gone to town and had dinner and lots of alcohol... meanwhile, we took a lot of really incredible photos. They showed back up, noisy, and very drunk, about 10:30, and proceeded to build a big roaring fire. While the winds off the lake kept the smoke away from our shots - the ambient light became a problem, so we all went to bed by 11. And then got to listen to them laughing/talking until the wee hours of the morning.

The next morning, we photogs arose around 6 AM, cranky from lack of sleep.... my friend started it. Yelled over to me "Deb, you like Metallica, right? How about THIS tune?" and had it blaring from his car. Well, I DON'T like Metallica, but it was hilarious. I had resorted to sleeping in my Dodge Caravan, and every time the back hatch opens or closes, it beeps a warning; and when I lock the car, it beeps an acknowledgement. You just can't believe how many times I needed to get in and out of my car....LOL! Another friend had to yell and tell us how cold it was in the vault toilet... you get the gist. (I would NEVER have done this, if we weren't the only ones in that park). Finally, as the Frat boys were starting to crawl out of bed around 10 AM (yes, we made noise for 4 hours) - we decided to go back home.

Someone please tell me I'm not the only camper who ever got revenge? ๐Ÿ™‚

To all you people who wish to "stand above" the people who are behaving inconsiderately:

You are major contributors to the problem. Every time you allow these people to "get away" with their behavior you are teaching them that the behavior is acceptable. While it might be ok if you were always stuck next to the offenders and therefore the only ones who have to be affected by them this isn't the case. You will never see them again but you pass them on to the rest of us which makes you equal to the very people you are pretending to be "better than"...

I would have done a few things a little different.

I would have walked over and introduced myself and asked if they could spare a beer.

I would have drank a few of their beers and then go back to my rig and get a bottle of Everclear. I would then start pouring drinks for all. Of course I would be generous on the mix. :B

They would be all done by 10PM. Then I would watch the real fun the next morning :B

We were staying at a state park once, and a group of recent high school graduates took two sites directly across from us. They were up till all hours of the night, whooping and hollering. Shortly after they finally passed out, a roving band of raccoons invaded their campsites. we could hear them getting into coolers, and knocking things off the picnic table. We just laughed as the kids woke up cursing and screaming, stumbling around in the dark trying to figure out what was raiding their campsite. I think it was almost dawn before they got things cleaned up and got back to bed, but it totally worth the sleepless night to hear those raccoons in action!

That's the crazy part: there were 3 of us in the entire state park (which is long and narrow). We were at one end; a TC was at the other, at least a couple hundred yards away - and these guys invaded our little 30' x 50' patch of grass like it was the only space in the whole park. A hundred yards away was a beautiful grassy lawn with a nice covered pavilion. Where they set up wasn't even a camping site.... but since the park was barely open, we never had a Ranger go by.

So no - we were not disturbing anyone but the perpetrators. We hope ๐Ÿ˜‰

I posted kinda off topic about reasons for feeling like revenge.
I really just ignore it at campgrounds. Gets bad enough I will tell the Host.

To the people who make lots of noise early in the morning, what about the rest of the people in the campground that did nothing to you that you woke up? Should they get revenge of you the next night?

If no one else is in the campground but you and the offenders this is not applicable.

Sometimes unplanned revenge is good too. We have a burn ban in effect in our campground right now and are not even allowed to use power tools (lawn mowers, leaf blowers, weedeaters).

Went up to our lot on Saturday and our neighbor (who let their lot get really overgrown) was weedeating. They disappeared for a while and one of the workers came by to tell them they couldn't do it but they weren't there. When the neighbor came back, my sister explained to them that there is a ban on all power tools right now and they basically told her that they did't care and proceeded to fire up the weedeater again. A while later, we smelled smoke and sure enough, they were burning some of their yard debris.

Fast forward to late evening and my sister, her husband and 5 of their friends are sitting around the picnic tables playing games, listening to music and drinking beer until the wee hours of the morning. And the neighbor is in a tent. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It wasn't a revenge that was planned but I definitely smiled a little to myself when I went to bed at 11:00 p.m. in my quiet 5th wheel while they were still out there having a good time.

Thanks, Crowe! As a 62 yr old Grandma of 16, I was kind of proud to "stoop to their level" ๐Ÿ˜‰ although others are probably right - they probably slept right through our noise....

Lighten up. I'm the first to say stuff like that but I'd be lying if I said I didn't react the same way once or twice. And you've got it backwards-the Karma was on the partiers. Sometimes it's a lesson learned by the offenders which makes everyone's life better in the long run. In this case it's a "no harm, no foul" type of situation. If there were property damage or physical harm it would be a totally different story but a gentle reminder that there are other people around doesn't really hurt anyone.

when stuff is done around me we just do the best we can thru it and get on with our lives, but if a good revenge situation does arise,hmm...ya never know if I might take advantage of it!
never been pushed far enough to warrant taking revenge.
