If you think I can drive the price up by investing my money into oil why don't you invest your money "short" in oil and drive the price down?...
Not necessarily personally, but speculators as a whole do. I don't have enough money to drive the price down. If I did I probably wouldn't care what the price was!

I have no more control over the price of oil then you do. I'm just willing to invest my money into investments that I think are going to go up in price. It's just that simple. If I'm right, I make a profit; if I'm wrong I lose money. Just like the money I lost when I invested in GM stock.bid_time wrote:
Correction, It's "Investors", I'm not speculating. I'm Investing my money legally with the hopes of making a profit on my investment. Same as you buying a stock that you think will go up in price. Except I am buying a commodity, perfectly legal.
When speaking of commodities, it's speculating. And speculating is not illegal. But it is what drives the price up.

But you are probably only buying a "few" shares. The speculators are buying thousands of shares. Well, we don't have to worry, the gov't is now going to help BP with the oil spill. Plus I understand they've shut down several near by oil rigs. This week I expect to see another jump in gas prices.:R

Yup, the price of gasoline is rising again. Just in time before the summer driving season. The speculators are alive and well.
