It's all about government subsidies. We, the US taxpayer, subsidize coal and oil with big tax credits and direct handouts. We even go to war on behalf of Big Oil. Your tax dollars at work.
The coal industry is getting $4billion this year for "Clean Coal", which is a fiction. Meanwhile, solar is only getting $200million. While ALL of the USAs power requirements could be met by a PV station in the Nevada desert, 90 miles on a side.
Current estimates are that it will cost $12billion to $50billion to clean up the mess in the Gulf. We, the US taxpayers, are going to foot the bill unless someone develops the backbone to cajole BP into paying for it, and BP shows every intention of sneaking out and leaving this problem for US taxpayers to solve.
International corporations have privatized the US government. YOU will be paying for the oil greed of international oil companies, 60% owned by foreigners. Unfortunately, the US national debt is 100% owned by US citizens.
