It's much easier and cheaper to drill for oil on land or even in shallow water. Then when something bad happens you can be right there to fix it. Instead our government would rather drill way out in the gulf where the main valve that shuts off the well is 5 miles underwater. So when a problems develops, it become major catastrophe that cant be fixed - cause its donw where no man can go!
Ask those poor people in the Gulf if they're still happy about the deep water wells off the coast, and wait till they can't stop it till August! Drill baby drill now sounds pretty stupid. This is from a guy whose running a F350 Lariat DRW Power Stroke Diesel w/ Tow Boss. We need to make some serious changes about gasoline and petroleum products. T Boone Pickens has a common sense start point!
Had this well been on dry land and blown out, Red Adair Co. would have had it fixed in a day. Remember the 1,000's of oil well fires Irag started as they left Kuwait 15 years ago. Had them all out and capped in no time.
Face it, we ain't getting off oil anytime soon, because our government doesn't have a enough common sense to develop a comprehensive, well thought out, energy policy. That's why I invest in oil futures. I know even if I lose money in the short term, as long as our gov't has there head in the sand, I am going to make money in the long term.
Drill Baby Drill isn't the bad thing, it's where they are drilling at.
It comes to my mind that Jimmy Carter (another great president :E) started up the energy department to wean us off foreign oil and become self-sufficient.:B
It's going to take the real voters holding out elected representatives feet to the fire to get anything accomplished. It may even take a project like the WWII Manhattan Project to accomplish the task.
