Saw $1.97 yesterday. Looks like OPIEC is finally out of the drivers seat thanks to American ingenuity for inventing horizontal drilling and fracking.

Looks like America and other parts of the world have begun to make the change to renewables in a huge way. Cars are far more miserly and soon the driverless electric will be in everything. Natural gas is being installed and coal has died. Even China has begun changing from coal to solar to natural gas. The only thing now is a needed push by America to lead in the new world, we will see.

Good morning. Although I share your enthusiasm I think we have to remember that natural gas is not a renewable but it is a huge improvement over coal obviously. Coal is losing ground everywhere now but the push to eliminate it will be more economical based and not environmental (sadly). But it is now cheaper to produce power from solar than coal. The challenge is still night time storage but that is also a very fast moving field. A couple decades from now there will be a lot less energy produced from coal than there is now. I'm not up on American numbers but I know 2030 is the phase out date for coal power in Canada. Canada already is under 16 percent so not far to go. I think china will be the leader in this area.

I think china will also be the leader in replacing gas cars with electric. Korea and Japan are also offering a bunch of choices this year and of course the USA has Tesla. Model three production starts next month in Fremont. Total Tesla production between the three models may be north of 180000 cars in 2018 and 250000 in 2019.

We only drive about 16000 km per year in our two electric vehicles but we could never go back to gas burners. The electric drive is just superior in every way and every time someone drives one of our vehicle they are immediate converts.

However, the present offerings of cars is not the answer for everyone's needs. First, they are not trucks and many need a truck. Especially RVers. People who make regular long road trips have limited selection of electric cars that could suit their needs and those ones are expensive. But for those of us with commutes of less than 150 km the amount of models that will do the job is doubling every couple years. Most are 25 to 35K but I would consider that affordable for many. Once they get down to that 20,000 point look out though.

Interesting times.

Horizontal drilling and fracking have absolutely nothing to do with the production of oil which is made into gas. The problems of fracking, little things like generating man made earthquakes and the pollution of fresh water supplies, are hardly worth the increase in production of natural gas.
Natural gas is does not come from oil. Fracking supplies over 50% of the US's oil and over 65%of our natural gas. You use both every day. Please link to a single aquifer contaminated by the fracking of the 1.6 MILLION wells fracked in the last 65 year. The earthquakes you are talking about are from production water that comes up with the oil and is reinjected back into the deep strata a mile below any aquifer.

In Shawnee we saw gas for $1.79nd diesel for $1.95. On the Interstate the biggies were sticking at $2.32 especially toward Oklahoma City. Saw one or two stations at $2.29. The big companies are trying to set the price and small stations nearby on the Interstat4e stay the same or a bit lower.
We bout gas at Sallisaw for $2.77. and Put in almost 100 gallons of diesel at the Wal Mart. $1.89-.03 for using their gift card for $1.86 a gallon.
W were disconnected and went early or we could not have gotten the coach around it,possibly. Saved right at $48.00.
Everything near the Arkansas line, was high again with the exception we found. Probably down the road it is cheaper. Certainly cheaper than the Interstate exit stations, especially the big two.
In Ft Smith didn't find any cheaper prices but Locals may know of some.
Trying to use Gas Buddy and finding it not as friendly for shopping an area.

Two points I want to make which may be slightly OT:

1-we all got surprised by the sudden fall in petrol prices, so we should be careful about future predictions. In particular, all the incentives we consumers and citizens gave to oil companies (because of shortaages) are unlikely to return to us as consumer cost reductions. So, don't do it again! Most of the bonuses and profits, etc., went offshore, and we'll never see that money again at home. Billions and trillions. And it's still happening. "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and shame on me."

2-watchout for "micro-strokes" in your blood system. They can cause you to crash or even lose track of where you are. I first noticed micro-strokes in my 60s when I couldn't complete a sentence. I think micro-strokes are what cause old people to drive up on a sidewalk and not be able to explain it. People die. Your good driving habits and mental alertness won't help you.

I remember in early 2008 paying $5.15 gallon in TX for diesel. I paid $2.10 in the upper part of Michigan a couple weeks ago. Couldn't be a happier retiree.

In Central Florida our prices bottomed out at $1.87 and are back to about $2.11 now. I have read that prices will be stable through the end of the year, but what do the experts know? The drilling rig counts continue to inch upwards.Labor Day weekend is coming up and there is usually a spike around there.

OK folks lets focus...
What in the heck do the last 4 posts have to do with fuel prices?
Everyone is entitled to their political opinion but not here. It's a shame we don't have moderators to muzzle the thread hijackers

For the record, regular here in Tucson is $1.89.
