We can solve our energy problems with a twofold approach:

1-continue to use Other Peoples Oil (cut back oil lease sales in the USA) whiical use like military and airplanes,

2-shift our government subsidy programs from sunset industries like oil and coal to new tech such as PV, wind, etc. If we moved the $4billion "clean coal" subsidy to PV it would really take off.

I sat down in a great Amish diner yesterday and was reading some of those "How things were in .... "

In 1964 Gas was $0.30/Gal, a car cost $3000, and a loaf of bread $0.20
In 1986 Gas was $0.92/Gal, a car cost $9400, and a loaf of bread $0.63
In 2010 Gas is $2.70/Gal, a car cost $30000, and a loaf of bread is $1.74

So basically every 20 years or so inflation has made things treble in price, I always wonder why people single out gas as SOOOO expensive?

Around here the price of gasoline is $2.59 at Sam's club. $2.67 at the regular stations. I don't pay any attention to the price of Diesel except to say it runs about 20ยข a gallon more in price.

There is plenty of oil to be drilled, it's just that the government has closed off all the easy places to drilling. It's much easier and cheaper to drill for oil on land or even in shallow water. Then when something bad happens you can be right there to fix it. Instead our government would rather drill way out in the gulf where the main valve that shuts off the well is 5 miles underwater. So when a problems develops, it become major catastrophe that cant be fixed - cause its donw where no man can go!

Had this well been on dry land and blown out, Red Adair Co. would have had it fixed in a day. Remember the 1,000's of oil well fires Irag started as they left Kuwait 15 years ago. Had them all out and capped in no time.

Face it, we ain't getting off oil anytime soon, because our government doesn't have a enough common sense to develop a comprehensive, well thought out, energy policy. That's why I invest in oil futures. I know even if I lose money in the short term, as long as our gov't has there head in the sand, I am going to make money in the long term.

Drill Baby Drill isn't the bad thing, it's where they are drilling at.

It comes to my mind that Jimmy Carter (another great president :E) started up the energy department to wean us off foreign oil and become self-sufficient.:B

It's going to take the real voters holding out elected representatives feet to the fire to get anything accomplished. It may even take a project like the WWII Manhattan Project to accomplish the task.

If you're traveling I-5 in Oregon, the 76 Station at Exit #278 (Donald/Aurora) has Diesel for $2.89/gal. The station is on the east side of the freeway just beyond the Aurora Acres RV Resort. Not sure how long this price will be in effect as the station has just re-opened under new management.

And who is it that chants the "Drill Baby Drill" and "Drill on land and off shore" while at the same time blocks any attempt to change our dependance on our "friends" in Venezuela or the mid-east to take our money for the oil.
The Government is we the people. Look at who is blocking efforts in the Senate to develop a more rational energy policy. The no votes seem to be comming from a certain group and not the entire Government.

Fuel prices will increase. We need to get use to it.
How can you block a "Rational Energy Policy" when there hasn't been one proposed yet?

Buy Oil Futures, helps to offset the rising prices.

It's all about government subsidies. We, the US taxpayer, subsidize coal and oil with big tax credits and direct handouts. We even go to war on behalf of Big Oil. Your tax dollars at work.

The coal industry is getting $4billion this year for "Clean Coal", which is a fiction. Meanwhile, solar is only getting $200million. While ALL of the USAs power requirements could be met by a PV station in the Nevada desert, 90 miles on a side.

Current estimates are that it will cost $12billion to $50billion to clean up the mess in the Gulf. We, the US taxpayers, are going to foot the bill unless someone develops the backbone to cajole BP into paying for it, and BP shows every intention of sneaking out and leaving this problem for US taxpayers to solve.

International corporations have privatized the US government. YOU will be paying for the oil greed of international oil companies, 60% owned by foreigners. Unfortunately, the US national debt is 100% owned by US citizens.

Gas prices are low and seem to be going lower.

Oil companies don't need an excuse. they respond to competitive market pressures. Unless, of course, they are a monopoly and can set whatever prices they please. Do you think oil companies are a monopoly?
