RV insurance on Canadian 5th Wheel

Our Greystone 5th wheel is registered and insured in Ontario. I would like to store it in Texas for six months in 2014 but my present insurance company tells me that they won't cover the insurance if we're not actually with it. American insurance companies have told me that I have to have it plated and registered in that state for me to insure it there.
And so, does anyone know of a Canadian insurance company that might insure our trailer while it remains in Texas and we return to Ontario?
All thoughts and ideas are appreciated!

  • Contact your house insurance broker. We have our required liability insurance through, Ins corp of B.C. and we have the rest of the insurance through Aviva. Don't know if Aviva carries liability.

I have Aviva on our motorhome, they require that I bring the rv back into Quebec within 6 months.

We drove it south at the beginning of October and we leave it in South Carolina with friends who technically 'use it' while we are at home for the Christmas holidays. We will return home with it before the end of March.

There is no easy solution depending upon which state you are trying to leave it in for longer than 6 months or unused in storage.

Sounds like he already did contact his broker

  • I live in B.C. and my TT is registered in B.C. with B.C. plates but I store it in the state of Washington where it remains most of the year. However, I mostly use it in B.C.. I have basic liability insurance with B.C.'s insurer, ICBC. I used to carry extended insurance with Aviva but they wouldn't cover it when stored outside of Canada. I went to an insurance broker in Washington and they set me up with Foremost Insurance. I haven't had any claims with them so far but I have no complaints.
