RV Insurance

$45K for a TT sounds like a nice, new, big 5th wheeler or park model. I wish I had so much money that I would even consider self-insuring a $45K travel trailer at a lake. Even then I'd probably pay the few hundred a year because if $45K didn't matter that much to me then what's a few hundred a year? I guess what I'm saying is, if you're not rich maybe you want to think about what it would do to your plans if you arrived at the lake some day and the trailer was missing.

I would only consider tornado/wind/flood insurance if that is available. I will set it up on a lake in Alabama. I will be there occasionally. Value is $45K. I am leaning towards self insuring it. Thanks for the input.

I use Progressive for my RV and bundle with both my home and cars. It's about $350 a year for just the RV. I have roadside assistance both through Progressive and through the extended warranty coverage I purchased.

How to choose any type of insurance company: check their industry wide rating for paying claims. That means pay noo attention to geckos, Flo, and cavemen.
Also read the proffered policy carefully.

What is the value of the TT?

You didn't say where it is "set up".
Soooo.. can you find/afford insurance to (only) cover it for tornado, hurricane, flood damage, fire, etc.?

Cost of same -vs- value of TT - is it practical to/for you?

Guess (for me) it's another "maybe" to post #2 also - as everyone's situation is different.

We use Liberty Mutual with good results. They allow us to put the RV in storage and only charge for the comprehensive portion of the policy during that time. (Not all companies allow this.) Our premium is $108/month when in use and $10 when in storage.(We are in MN).

If you are not going to live in it full-time, your current insurance company may very well have an RV policy that will give you what you need. If not, they should be able to recommend someone locally. If you are going to be full-time, then you need a full-timers RV policy. We are full-time and have our policy thru Progressive.

With an RV I would go with an RV Roadside service. Coachnet or Good Sam (I FAVOR Good Sam because of the excellent service they have given me) Some like one others like the other.
Automobile insurance policies generally will only cover you on paved roads.
RV roadside service will cover you on dirt roads
AAA is really 6-7 different clubs and you are at the mercy of the region you are in. As has been reported some regions will not change an inside dually. Some regions will not tow a travel trailer to a CG if the tow vehicle breaks down.
