RV Property tax?

One of our fellow RV'ers told me he is being charged a property tax on his trailer that is parked at a private RV park here in NC. It's not tagged or titled in NC, it's from Georgia but they still tax it as property. Do other states do this too?

He's being charged tax on the trailer not the land. They're taxing it because it is located in NC.

UPDATE: He lives here (NC) in the trailer all year because this is where his job sent him to work. He could be ask to relocate at any time. To me, the trailer & RV site fees could/should be considered a business expense but I don't know if he's an employee or private contractor.

If he is titled and tagged in Ga. Then I would argue that it is paid in my home state. He may have to move it once a year to prove it, but if he comes there for the winters it shouldn't be that hard.

I do seem to remember someone having a thread in here last year about Az, going through storage lots to locate and tax snowbird units.

In NM, for now, if it is not on a permanent foundation it is not considered a building and is not assessed with the property. If you pour a slab and put a shed or dog house up on it, you will pay for a building. If you keep the wheels on or build it on a movable base then it is not a building. Improvements like septic systems, wells, roads, etc are also taken into account to assess the value.

I'm surprised more states and counties don't jump on the 'tax the RV's' bandwagon. For some places it would be like an untapped oil or gas field.

How long has he been parked there?
A Relative and other accounts here a couple or few years ago about Arizona RV Parks.
The authorities apparently were taking note of cars and RVs that had been there more than ten days, I think, were the reports. They came into the parks and were issuing tickets for not being registered or plated in the state as Residents.
In Az I think they personal property taxes and RV Registrations are not that cheap.
It would mess up your insurance, voting, and going back home and redoing everything and paying registration or taxes again there.
Don't remember reading of any outcome on the situation. It could put a serious crimp in RVParks incomes and in local groceries and other suppliers, if people started vacationing else where.
Taxes and more taxes is the theme today. Canadians have the six month rule to deal with as well as Residents of most or all states but Taxing Authorities, and Legislatures seem determined to make everyone stay home or pay though the nose.

If it's not tagged or plated, they pretty well have him trapped. County Revenuers can simply go through the park, select the fixed units and then demand owner info from the park. Easy pickens. Virginia even made it mandatory that Vet's give the county a list of every dogs owner in the county for them to tax.

RV's are one thing they don't tax here in NY, shhh don't give them any ideas!
