Rv surge protector

There has been many posts about a good surge protector. The most popular is from Progressive Industries. The warranty and service is said to be the best. I use one of these and it has worked by shutting down from too much power as well as too little power. It also checks for incorrect wiring from the source.

Steve, you are actually not reading the threads/posts about surge protectors that are very recent?

Thanks for comments. No, I haven't read comments about surge protectors elsewhere here. I'm still learning where to find things on this site...lol. Sorry.

Progressive Industries. Get an EMS....better than a surge protector...but also cost a bit more. Go to their website..you will find both, either 30AMP or 50AMP depending on your RV.
They will sell it to you, but search around the 'net for cheaper prices.

I like my Progressive Industries one.

Make sure you get the more expensive one that resets itself automatically.
I originally made the mistake of getting the one hundred dollar one and that is useless since it does not reset automatically.
If it is a hot day and you are gone for the day, when you come back your RV will be like an oven with no air conditioning.

Term surge included many different and unrelated anomalies. A protector for the home typically does not protect from anomalies of concern in campgrounds. Those anomalies include high voltage, brownouts, reverse polarity, open neutral, and floating ground. An RV protector must, at minimum, should address those anomalies.

The two main players in RV surge protection / EMS are Technology Research (TRC) and Progressive Industries which each offer portable surge protectors and surge protector / EMS units in portable and hard wire configurations. Having owned a TRC Surge Guard and TRC Voltage Regulator myself I understand the drawback in owning any TRC product that is covered by just a one year limited warranty from a manufacturer that refuses to offer replacement parts after that one year warranty expires. Compare that to the lifetime warranty Progressive Industries provides with the purchase of it's products and the answer IMO should be evident as to where your $$$ are best spent.

The OP needs to decide if he really wants just surge protection or whether his needs would be better served by a surge protection / EMS device that will also protect his rig from a variety of power source anomalies. The answer to this for me is also obvious - a full featured EMS, whether portable (for convenience of use) or hard wire that once installed needs no attention at all. I chose the latter and countless incidents since with source power when we're camping AND when my trailer is parked here at the house have convinced me I'd never ever plug in again without the benefit of protecting my rig's electrical system with my Progressive EMS-HW30C. :B

If not the portable unit, it is user serviceable. They will ship you the replacement part, and you install it. The portable is not user serviceable.
