rv toilet leaking??

I have an Aqua Magic IV, and before you go screaming "REPLACE THE WATER VALVE REPLACE THE WATER VALVE REPLACE THE WATER VALVE" I actually just did that today. At first the toilet was leaking whether I used it or not and that was from the valve - I bought a new one off Amazon and replaced it.. but now it's leaking from a different spot - at the top of the toilet in the back. It only happens when I flush the toilet. What is happening?????

Good advise from Dick B If you don't have a main water shut off at the toilet, install one with the main water off. It will save you time in the future. I had a problem a couple of years ago with a Thetford toilets seal leaking, and had problems with replacing it, so I just got a new 320 toilet from Domitec and have had no issues YET with it. WARNING: Parts are hard to get for it. Draw back, but design is better.
  • Another good reason to use the water pump instead of the CG water source. Leaks can be heard when the pump comes on.
  • I feel your pain... We had the same toilet. After we replaced the water valve it still didn't work right and would allow a little water to keep flowing if you didn't make sure the foot pedal snapped back all the way. The valve/pedal mechanism is a flimsy cheap design. Then the ball valve wouldn't close all the way and allowed the tank to fill up.

After having the Thetford overflow twice, we replaced it with a Dometic 310. Way nicer toilet. I'd highly recommend doing the same. We paid $165 USD online including shipping and then sold the Aqua Magic on FB marketplace for a decent price so the upgrade didn't cost much. We had 3 people interested within a day! Night and day difference.

The last thing you want in any RV is a water leak and leaking toilets in some cases can even end up in a total loss.

FWIW, I installed a shutoff valve behind the toilet. Good for peering down into the tank when rinsing or if you want to make 100% sure the toilet won't overflow but still want all the faucets working.
  • I think Mr Wizard might have the right answer. That is where my last leak was from. replacement valve was readily available.

If i foggily recall there were two types one for bidet and one not? :h

BTW OP you sound a little persinickidy there.
  • In 2014 we had a big leak in the back of the toilet. Either at the factory or dealer they had used a short white vinyl clad type water hose that ws stiff and put a curl in it to the toilet from the fitting on the wall. The fitting which was plastic or some polymer finally broke. Lucky to find a small RV Dealer who had a fully equipped Mobile Tech who replaced it with proper tubing and fittings.
All sorts of water pipes and tubing out there that work as long as they aren't under undue stress. I'm glad we weren't connected at the time to a 85 lb or higher pressure faucet.
  • Did you install the float correctly- little golf t type thing with the rubber top. It goes in the valve, when you flush it blocks the opening in the top.
