I think he'll be okay for the most part with that size of a trailer.. If was thinking of getting a #10,000 GVWR Toy Hauler, well.... ;)
He will feel more top heavy more than anything IMO. He might want to consider re-gearing if it feels like it's bogging down due to the taller and heavier wheel/tire combo.
I see lifted trucks towing trailers of all sorts all the time. Not saying it's ideal or that I would be comfortable doing it, but it can certainly be done within reason.
How about him just renting a covered utility trailer and loading it and giving it a tow? That'll pretty much tell him where he stands on towing with his truck?? A lot cheaper than buying a new TT and finding out he does not like the way it tows! :)
