Sand Mat For Bottom Of Stairs?

we beach trip ALOT.
we take shoes off at the steps. if 'good ones' they come inside on a mat near the door after a pounding/shake off. if just flip flops etc. we keep a small tub near the steps and throw them in for later when we come out, back on they go.
I have a dustbuster thing I suck up sand near the mat at the front door, sweep every now and then. Sand gets everywhere anyway. We just go with the flow and it gets a great cleaning when home.
