Sand Mat For Bottom Of Stairs?

We do a LOT of beach camping from April - Halloween. Lots of sand, naturally. Do you have any tips for keeping sand out of the camper when you're going inside? I guess I'm looking for some kind of grated mat or something that you can walk on and that any sand on your feet or shows can fall through the grates instead of building up on the stairs going in the camper.

I think the normal RV awning mat works well in sandโ€ฆ

I Use the same system as BurbMan and it works pretty well and I spend a lot of time at my favorite beach location.

I stumbled on This Mat that works better than any other mat that I have tried, The video shows how it works so well.

We also have all three steps covered with the same material. Works great!! We spend a lot of time at the Ocean and lots of sand.

X3, we bought a couple of those mats after our friends recommendation. They work great.

It seems like you wouldn't want to use it with your bare feet though. What do you think?

True, would be kinda rough on the feet.

Used to have a 3-M Nomad mat, but it got away from me. Worked great. Now we use a door mat with plastic grass to knock off the majority before we go inside then we have a heavy industrial carpet mat inside the door. We then take our shoes off and put them in a boot tray inside the door. Between the three we and the dogs keep most of the dirt and sand out. but I sure miss that Nomad mat.

The Clean Machine mat really works great. We also keep a soft bristled brush outside our door, to brush off our bare feet before we go inside.

We use a camping world mat that has lots of plastic stick up thingies (kind of like fake grass but plastic) AND a dishpan full of water and a hose sprayer to squirt off feet.

After the last of our cats passed away (he was 18) as we were cleaning out things - the DW suggested we try out the large anti-kitty litter mat we kept under/ around the litter box below the TT steps.

It works great.

As I started to read your post somehow I was expecting you to tell us how you used the dead cat as a sand mat. Whew!

Don't know where it was found but we have a bristle & wire shoe/boot cleaning thinghy. I think it was designed more for snow but it works for sand & mud.

We have two of these type mats at the bottom of our steps and they work great. In addition we have two 9x12 patio vinyl mats along the side of the MH that also keeps the sand away from the steps.

I also keep a small brush near the steps to brush off excessive sand, etc.

we beach trip ALOT.

we take shoes off at the steps. if 'good ones' they come inside on a mat near the door after a pounding/shake off. if just flip flops etc. we keep a small tub near the steps and throw them in for later when we come out, back on they go.

I have a dustbuster thing I suck up sand near the mat at the front door, sweep every now and then. Sand gets everywhere anyway. We just go with the flow and it gets a great cleaning when home.

A better idea may be a C Gear sand through mat available through REI. These are an Australasian product originally used as a landing mat for helicopters in desert operations. Sand will actually flow through the mat. This does not take care of sand clinging to the feet but you can brush or wash them off on the mat and have very little carry over.

I use one of these too. But follow it up with, cut to fit, Clean Machineยฎ Scraper Door Mats for the two steps inside the coach. Use velcro to hold the door mats in place. They hold all kinds of sand that the folding step misses. Just peel up the mat to empty out the sand, then stick it back down. Got the Clean Machineยฎ Scraper Door Mats from Ace hardware.
