Second Vehicle Fees?

Some CG's charge extra for a 2nd vehicle on a site. A vehicle pulling a TT or 5er doesn't pay a 2nd fee, are they expecting a Motorhome with a Toad to pay extra? What do you do??? ST

That is the same here in New Mexico. Truck and 5th wheel or motor home and toad. Often I just put my motorcycle on a hitch rail and bring it along. I have never been charged extra for the bike. Now I have a Ford Ranger that I will start towing with the bike in the bed. I wonder if I will get charged then for the bike?

You are lucky you weren't charged for the motorcycle or maybe the park attendant did not know the rules-a common NM park issue.

Direct Quote from NM Parks site: A motor home towing a vehicle or a vehicle towing a camping trailer is considered ONE (1) vehicle. Extra vehicles, including motorcycles, will be charged $10 per night per vehicle collected at the park. A Maximum of TWO (2) vehicles (A motor home towing a vehicle or a vehicle towing a camping trailer and one other vehicle) are allowed per site, space permitting.

Mostly it is at public parks with day use fees charged per vehicle. Yes, if you unhook and drive in and out of the front gate, you will pay another day use fee for your towed vehicle. If your bring a pair of motorcycles, you will pay for both of them.

Or go to Texas. The fee is per person, per day. Not per vehicle.

For what it's worth, North Carolina State Parks don't charge a fee... Our taxes at work for you...

neither do Illinois state parks.

Shenandoah National Park charges a $20/vehicle fee...if you are pulling a trailer, I don't think you pay that fee, but if you are towing behind a motorhome, I would imagine you do...This is on top of your camping fee. The plus side is that it's good for a week....that's crazy.....

They don't charge for the Blue Ridge Parkway....they also don't charge to drive into the GSMNP....WE are heading to Shenandoah over July 4th weekend...I guess we will see why they charge it...

Just part of the expense of camping. We usually bring an extra vehicle, 4 adults and 4 dogs. The extra vehicle is nice for driving around as it's a hybrid that gets very good gas mileage. We have no problems paying for an extra vehicle if charged. It's figured in. Many times they staff doesn't even charge anyway. It's up in the air. But we go in budgeted to pay.

I've been charged for each of two motorcycles that take up less room than one car. Now we ask before we book a site.

What many seem to fail to understand (accept): "Their CG..their rules". Don't like the rules, regardless who makes them? Go elsewhere. That simple.

In the case of any of the beach CG's they are one in the same. I wait for them, they'll be waiting for me.

If towed into the park you shouldn't be charged, if driven in you could be.

Thats what I've seen

What I find annoying is MH drivers that drop the towed once to the camp sight! Typlicly one lane one way road tied up for 5 to 10'minutes! :S

What is so hard about dropping earlier where the road wider and others can easly passed. :h
As mentioned, often, if it's not TOWED into the CG, it's charged as a separate vehicle. In the case of many of the California beach CG's there simply is no place to unhook anywhere else.

What's the difference between a 2 min unhook of a car as opposed to unhooking a TT, 5W, or anything else towed in needing to get set up? That is often 15 mins+ before the tow vehicle can be moved. Having said that anyone requiring "5-10 mins" to unhook a toad needs to pick up the pace... Allot. It just ain't that hard.

Well the toad disconnect typically takes place in the middle of the single lane oneway road, while the trailer disconnect happens in the camp site.

It doesn't matter what any of us think, each CG has their rules. Either go there or somewhere else
