Selling an RV Through Consignment

if they are selling on consignment there shouldn't be a price they "offer" you. they can recommend what you should ask for it but it sounds to me like they may have inflated the asking price to sucker you in and it will have to sell for less. I sold my bounder on consignment, they found a buyer and I would have cleared less than I wanted so I told them I needed X dollars and they cut their take a little to sell it.

I am waiting for the contract to be emailed to me so I can look it over. From what I've been reading online, it's not uncommon for an RV consignment dealer to offer or guarantee a price. Then of course, they sell it for as much as they can and keep whatever they make above the promise. They've agreed to pay us about $3000 less than we're asking.

If it was me I would stay away from Johnsons RV, the one here in Colorado closed and IMHO the are thieves, and use bait and switch tactics. They were going to buy my Class A for a price I wanted then when it came time to sign they said never mind don't need it.

IF they actually "offering you a price", this is NOT a consignment sale.

Most likely it IS a consignment sale and they are just giving you an "estimated" sale price. In those situations, what you actually end up getting is often WAY less than their not-so-honest estimate.

Read the contract carefully.

Thanks Sam and everyone else for their comments so far. I will definitely be looking carefully at the contract and may post an additional question or two after reading it. I often ask for advice here when I'm out of my comfort zone -- and I truly appreciate any and all info you folks provide.

I "assume" that that offer is contingent on them being able to actually sell the unit for what they need/want.

That's absolutely correct, bumpy, and I do realize that. And while he's extremely confident that he can have it sold in the next few weeks, I'm a skeptic by nature, which of course is why I'm here.

I also know that they specialize in the sale of Class B RVs. In fact, we spent a lot of time at Johnson RV when we were originally looking for this rig. Ended up buying from a private seller, who...you guessed it -- bought it at Johnson RV.

Lastly, I've done my research, so I know we're already asking a little less than it's worth. I expect they realize that. Knock me down a couple more grand and they'll surely make a profit, so I imagine that's why they're attracted to it in the first place. I'm good with all of this if it would streamline the whole process. I just want to make sure there are no surprises. I've never sold anything on consignment.

Watch out for cleaning and storiedge fees, and also any feas if you desides to take it back as it is not selling.

Take a look on RV trader for pricing. Be realistic. Keep in mind many people are well upside down on rigs for sale.

We've sold 3 on our own it's pretty easy to do.
