selling motorhome questions

When we sold our trailer recently we successfully used craigslist but we it was a $7,000 item. Now we are trying to sell our motorhome and it is $27,000 (maybe try a b or something different). Have any/many of you tried the higher ticket items on craigslist and had success or am I trying the wrong place?

Thinking about maybe trying rvtrader...although we got a few calls from dealers when we listed trailer.

We sold the last 2 campers, snowmobiles, all kinsa stuff on CL. The last camper, the bank still held the title and a balance on the loan. The way it worked, since most don't just have $20K cash laying around.....the buyer gets a loan at their bank. The buyer's bank contacts the bank holding the loan. Balance is paid, title goes to the buyer's bank, seller gets the rest of the $$. No worries about BS cashier's checks, and no large amounts of cash changing hands. Worked pretty darn slick.
Benefit to selling outright, whether on CL, Classifieds, or just a for sale sign......you get MUCH MORE than a dealer will give for trade in. In our case, almost double what the dealer offered. Just don't be in a hurry to sell. We figured, any offer over trade in was money in the bank. You also have to have a good BS filter. There's always someone trying to scam. Good rule of thumb......ALWAYS in person transaction. DO NOT bite on the "My Courier" or "Delivery Driver" crap. If they're not going through a bank for a loan, CASH ONLY. If they can get a certified bank check, they can get cash.

We found our rig about 20 miles away when the original owners advertised in the local newspaper. They'd had about 15 calls and three other people had looked at it before we bought it.

When we sell it in the fall, we'll start out with the local paper and see what happens.

Bought one for $32k off Craigslist and sold the same one for $29k several years later. Bought another last year, also off Craigslist.

Buyimg, selling, and buying again, were all done within 150 miles from where I live, although, I did have calls and email from other states.

If I didn't have success / interest after a few weeks on Craigslist, RVTrader would have been my next step. I could have posted simultaneously to both but the calls and correspondence from the craigslist ad took up plenty of my time.

Be sure to post lots of pictures and an honest description of your MH.

Good luck.

A lot of people look on Craigs List for motorhomes. You just need to be careful about the people that want to look at your motorhome. Ask questions and get a good feel for them before you let them come over and look.

Works well in Yuma, many folks looking for a used RV, although I sold one word of mouth to friend of a friend. Doesn't hurt.
