Senior Citizens Speak Up

DallasSteve

A lot of seniors, like me, are living in RVs. If the states and feds close the campgrounds we will be paying higher park rates to stay in crowded private campgrounds that will probably raise rates even more and surely won't be less safe from a health standpoint. I sent a respectful message to the Corps Of Engineers yesterday telling them my opinion. Seniors have clout at the ballot box.

How about an ex wife who rips you off and then, when you finally had enough and leave, she criticizes you for leaving?

As a Californian will tell you, if you are not paying taxes in the state -- and specially if your poor state is being subsidized by their tax money, you have no right to speak about them and it's NOYB!:B

California got enough of my tax money, and I got nothing for it.. so yeah, it is my business.

Mike

You are from Georgia for chrissakes!

You are getting $1.29 for every dollar you pay in federal tax.

If you are complaining about taxes you are paying in California, don't visit. You only get California tax is if you go there and buy stuff.

Californians and NYers don't have any choice but subsidize with their taxes your very poor state.

Just cause it says Georgia, doesn't mean he's never lived in California. I'm a native Californian and lived there almost my entire life(for 60 years), until I retired and escaped as quickly as possible. So even though my profile says Washington, I paid California taxes for 45 years.
So I definitely feel I can comment about California, as many of us that left California have the right to.

Let see how that would work with an ex-wife if she won't punch you in the mouth that you've left her, not paying for alimony but you still can't and won't shut your trap about her, her life and her life style.

Those type of things keep our cost down tremendously. We occasionally stay at a Walmart, but no more than 5-6 nights in a year and don't boondock.

Which part of the country is this?

Out West you'll be lucky to get a campsite at $25 a night -- no hookups.

Very poor state? Another uninformed person from Stupifornia!:S Your state can't even support itself let alone any others.

You just described yourself. Can't do math?

California GDP - $3.2 trillion
Georgia GDP - $619 billion

You should thank Kentucky that there is someone poorer.

By they way, I'm not in California. But I spend a lot of camping time there they might as well award me a citizenship.

The problem with statistics. The non-majority who will die are not just numbers.

They are grandparents, dads, now sons and daughters -- and kids.
You can get all whiny, but that doesn't change the facts that most people will not get sick. Do you quit driving when you read about the thousands of "grandparents, dad, now sons and daughters" who die in car wrecks, or get shot? Do you then petition to stop driving, ban guns? Yes, most of the fatalities will be the elderly, children are much less risk according to most of the studies I read.

Going into panic mode will not slow down the spread, or do anything at all except make things worse. So chill out, stay home, realize you can't do anything except keep yourself healthy, and self-medicate if you're not healthy.

Having all the fulltimers descend on Walmart would probably be much worse than letting them use parks. They're going to go somewhere, and when private parks fill up they're still going to go somewhere, and that isn't "home."

While I agree they could keep the CG's open, as you will have far more social distancing than in any city or gathering place, I'm baffled by talk about using your voting power as a threat to the COE, who comes directly under the US Army, which is directly under the Dept. of Defense which is run by the Secretary of Defense, NONE of these are electable positions. the secretary is appointed by the President, who right now is pretty busy dealing with a pandemic that's killing people and trashing the economy, do you really think that camping (even full timing) is high on his list of TO DO ?

California government sucks. A bunch of enviro-nazi whackos run the place. But that's a subject for another thread.

CA has closed some beach campgrounds and has stocked all the spaces with RV's, to be used as quarantine quarters. Is it possible the COE is anticipating the same need?

If you've built your living situation around low price government plots of land, I guess you'll just have to accept whatever they dish out, and vote as you see fit.

We have a national emergency going on, and it's getting worst (in a non-linear manner). Many will lose their apartment or house. The economy will tank, and we'll witness the recession go into a depression. More and more of us will have needs, and nowhere to turn. Yeah, I sound like doom and gloom. Wish, wish, wish that I'm wrong. I sure hope I can keep working on my RV, and get to do a little more RVing.
That's the mindset to spread the panic. The overwhelming majority of people who get sick, or are exposed to the virus will be completely fine. Worrying and fretting about what could happen is what is driving this frenzy of buying. Large numbers of people die from the regular flu every year, why did no one ever worry about that?

This may, repeat may, be worse but the "experts" don't know, and you can find someone who will support your personal leanings if you search hard enough. If people would just chill out, stay home, and quit buying things "just in case" we would all be better off.
