Side compartments key broken

It depends on the type of lock you have, if it is the common cylinder type any RV shop will have them. If it is something out of the ordinary, on line would be your best bet.

Open the door and remove the lock then go from there. There is usually one phillips screw then a large nut holding it on.

a good rv store will have both the different types of locks/ if it is a cylinder lock drill it out and take the whole thing in so you can get the right length. I think they come in three sizes, and type that has a lock off to one side and a pull handle to open, they have those too, just need to know what color you need. wouldn't hurt to take it in with you too.

is the door locked shut or can it be opened. if opened, just unscrew the old lock and take it to any RV dealer. and get rid of the 751 locks.

If you have a neighbor with an RV, ask to borrow their key.....they are all the same (if they look the same)...which is one of the complaints folks have....your key fits MY lock! Good thing RVers are such honest folks:)

If you have Roadside Assistance, they may be able to help you too.

I don't think I'd drill out the lock (or even remove one) if you can get a replacement key without much trouble.

Once you get access, you can go and get additional keys.

Most likely your storage door will be the 751 keyed locks which look like this google photo...

The moveable TAB can be bent fairly easy by just inserting a large screwdriver under the door near the lock and pry up. The TAB will bend very easy.


Once the door is opened then you can remove this type of lock very easy and replace it.

There is one advantage of everyone having the same the keyed locked is you will be able to use your neighbors key if you misplace your key.

These doors will not be secure with almost any kind of lock you come up with if someone wants to get inside it anyway...

All of our valuables are kept inside my truck when we are away from the trailer. My truck has the keypad for entry so this is also where I keep my duplicate keys for the trailer.

The best advice is to visit the RV store.. There are only a few keys and codes odds are, if you have tri-mark locks, my keys will fit your locks.

On the door in question you should be able to "Rake" the broken part of the key out (if you can't you can call a locksmith or better yet visit one) and a good locksmith can then take the pieces of the broken key and cut you new ones.

Put a big flat blade screwdriver in the key slot of the broken lock and open it. Then go to any good hardware store or home improvement store and buy a replacement or replacements. If you dig around you will find several that use the same key. They are usually found in the cabinet hardware area. Price will be WAY cheaper than an RV supplier..

A good locksmith will be able to make a new key from the code on the lock cylinder. Cheap and easy.

You might want to replace all of those locks with something other than ones that use #751 keys since about 99% of the R.V.s and probably yours use this key. You can get other locks at an R.V. dealer so at least it's unlikely that you'll have locks that can be opened with the key from most any other R.V. Yeah I know the thief will then tear up the cargo door to get in, but at least your insurance is more likely to pay for the damage than if it LOOKED like it was left open.
