Small solar trickle chargers.

Do they work??? YES :B they do. I have had my battery hooked to a solar charger all winter. It was in the building with the solar panel in the window.
I put the battery back into the TT today. Hit the battery button on the info center, and it showed full charge.
  • I have one I plug the motorcycle into and let it sit all winter. I just set it in a garage window. It will keep the battery charged but I don't think it will charge a low battery. It's about 12" by 4". I use it so I don't have a battery charger plugged in for 5 months.
  • I (we up north) have been using those for years up here in British Columbia. We use them on ATV, boats, snowmobiles, trucks cars everything.
Where I usually see them is at hunting camps , lake cabins where the trucks and ATV's sit for a long period of time and not starting.
Don't much use them in the winter as the snow covers the windshield by a couple feet deep, so pack the batteries home. However a buddy with a lake cabin built a window in the roof of his shed facing south and it is close to the edge of the roof, so the snow doesn't pile up.
Yup they work, up here we get them at Canadain Tire Stores.
    Soup.
  • Solar Blvd choices: Dasol 10W $25, Solar Cynergy 20 W $39, a good quality Evergreen Solar 120W $114 module if you have the room. These are really good deals for those living close in Southern CA. Check on shipping because at least the larger modules can be expensive to ship. Also, anything bigger than 20W should have a charge controller.

Good luck to solar harvesters, it's a really good deal for us RV'ers for storing batteries.
  • Mine came from Northern Tool, and they have larger sizes as well. Thinking of getting a larger one to take to the primitive CGs on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The only power we need up there is for the refer control board. A larger one would put more charge in the batt during the day.
  • Terry,
Where did you get your solar cell charger? I was looking at Harbor Freight but am concerned about the quality.

Can I ask just how small is small? (How many watts?)

    Thanks

2.5. As for the size. It is 3" x 9".
  • our AR conditioner has a small one on top but not sufficient to keep op with parasite loads will still deplete battery.
  • I plan to use it in my towed vehicle to keep that battery up.
