Solar Eclipse Res avaible in Oregon SP 8:00 am

We started looking back in November, we called a private campground near Maupin, they said they had been reserved for 3 years for that weekend...

"Salem OR – An extra 1,018 state park campsites were available for reservation starting 8 a.m. this morning, April 19, and by shortly after 9 a.m., they were all reserved. This includes all sites at 16 parks inside the “path of totality” plus space at 13 parks outside the path, where visitors will experience a partial eclipse. The eclipse will occur in the morning on August 21, 2017 and campsite reservations cover the nights of August 18, 19, and 20.

All reservations were completed within an hour and a half. A glitch at one park – Unity Lake in Eastern Oregon – caused problems for those 32 sites for about an hour. All state park sites available by reservation are now reserved, though cancellations may return a few sites to the pool. There is no waiting list, but campers can visit a state park’s web page on https://oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com/ and sign up to receive a notification about cancellations, then go online or call to try and reserve a space.

"These extra 1,000+ sites were added to the reservation system by converting existing first-come/first-served campsites, parking areas, and other open spaces into reservable individual campsites just for the event. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department does not expect to release any more new sites for reservations during the eclipse.

Campers who have a reservation along and near the path should continue to watch oregonstateparks.org for updates and planning tips."

To late they were gone before 8:01PDT at most campgrounds, all by 8:15PDT.

we got ONE site at Bates SP. Based on some other info I have it Looks like sites at all the newly available sites in parks in the full eclipse path were gone within about 15 SECONDS. we were looking for two sites, I hit the button maybe 1 second before our camping buddy did and he didn't get a site.

IIRC there were about an additional 1000 sites opened up for today's list, all the previous reservable sites were gone long ago.

I do have to commend state parks. This round allowed reservations for the normal first come first serve parks for Thursday through monday, must reserve all 3 days, no two week reservations, and all these new openings are not site specific but will be assigned on arrival. Nice for a reservation standpoint because you didn't need to pick a site and hope it was available, if not try another, just reserve at a campground.

Bates, overflow at Clyde holiday, and unity all were gone within less than a minute I can say.

And it was likely people from all over the country going for them.

Now had it been the normal Midnite start, maybe it would have lasted a little longer. But from my info state parks wanted to start at 8am so they had staff on line for any issues that may have come up.
