Somebody took my spot!

I just got back from a 2-week vacation in Florida and returned my TT to the storage to find that someone is parked in my spot. I called the owner of the storage facility and left him a message, including an email with the boat registration number in case he keeps record and knows who to call.

I waited about 1/2 hour and he has not called back. This storage place is owned by him, it used to be a farm that has both covered and uncovered spots, I pay for a covered spot and assigned that parking spot number. I parked in another spot that may be rented by someone else.

I am a bit nervous to leave the TT in another spot because it if belongs to someone else you never know what they are going to do. Leaving the beast in my driveway is not much of an option as I start work tomorrow (Sunday) and the zoning board gets involved if a neighbor complains. I leave the TT in the driveway the night before I depart for some of my trips and that way it is not much of a nuisance, other times I just leave from the storage facility. Unfortunately I do not have any options to store it at home like some of you all.

I found another storage place for the same money but it is not covered. The new place is so close I can bicycle there versus the 10 mile one-way trip. I am on a waiting list for that one.

I am current on the rent and left contact information with the storage management. I am not sure what a reasonable time would for management to contact me about the parking situation.

What is your experience if you had this happen?

That would suck. I'd be pissed off. Call mgmt, leave a message. Take my trailer back home and park it in front of my house, my neighbors are used to me doing that; it's the city that gets pissed off.

Happened here. Just took the next spot. Punched in my old spot number into the key pad to get in. They changed My code five years later. No big deal.

UPDATE: The owner just called (8:00am) Monday morning, it is a new renter who is supposed to be two spots down, that would put a trailer between us.

I asked if the mgmt/owner checks the VM/Phone on weekends and he does not but he did give me his personal cell phone.

I realize this is a private business, I do expect a call back in a reasonable time. If I owned this business I would delegate a second person to answer phones....etc.

In this case WA8XYM is correct. The owner/mgmt may have an issue preventing him returning my call. If I don't hear from him tomorrow which is a business day I will try businesses associated with his family.

Beyond that its a waiting game unfortunately.

Let's be realistic. This is a parking spot, not a home.

However, I would start to get ticked by now. I would expect to have this problem resolved within the day, early part of next day at the latest. Does the owner of a restaurant go on vacation and not leave someone in charge? A full day and a half with no call back is a pretty poor way to do business. I think I would be more irked at the lack of response than the original inconvenience.
I would tend to agree. Where I store my camper you have a emergency phone number to call.

Many people live in areas with restrictions and thus have to pay for storage

Now let me ask you "Oh Geeze" folks a question.

Assume you rent an apartment, or a house.. You pay for it (IN advance) and you go on a 2 week vacation.. You come home and like Baby Bear you find someone sleeping in your bed.. What you gonna do (Call 9-1-1 perhaps)

Well, that is EXACTLY what happened to the O/P.. Only he called the landlord, not the cops.. so far..

As for the storage lot owner not (yet) returning the call.....

Well..the O/P just returned from vactation,, The Lot owner may have taken one as well.

Or it could be like the landscaper who was working for my dad and suddenly started failing to show up....

Finally my Sister, the family lawyer. Leave him a voice mail message (Ok Answering machine back then) You'd better get back out there or I'm going to know why....

She knows why.. Police returned the call. He was dedeased (Natural causes, appears to have forgotten to wake up one morning, Eventually people called cops and they broke in and found him deceased).

So let's not get mad at the lot owner....yet.. Let's wait for the facts.

As for the squatter.. OK to be ticked with him.

Does the storage facility have hours posted for Saturday/Sundays?
Mine is listed "by appointment only"

No hours posted, just a phone number.

Are you at the place in Buckner? An old boat with OH plates used to be next to us there, but wasn't there when we picked up and dropped off for our trip last weekend. I thought the storage lot was cleaning house, but it sounds now like it could be that guy parking in your spot. I was glad it was gone because I could put out my slide without pulling the trailer out ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes it is, but the boat has KY registration. I'm in the covered with no electric. I mgmt/owner still hasn't called and wondering if he has some medical issue or the like. He seems connected well with his family in the building industry and feel that giving the benefit of the doubt until I hear from him. In the past he has returned my calls fairly promptly.
