I was wondering if any one has used this rust remover for under your RV. It seems to be exactly what I am looking for and sounds great, thats why I wonder if it really works. I have rust under my MH and I am looking for solutions. I was advised in a previous post to find a spray on rust remover, hopefully this is it. Thank you.

But, cleaners that are acidic in nature may harm the metal. Right?

I've done a fair bit of rust removal and treatment of various metals over the years. Most of it involved vehicles and equipment but I also do some painting of other metals so removing rust is part of the process.

I've shied away from the converter products, not so much that they don't work but almost all require another barrier coat of some sort for the surface and removing the rust is just as easy, at a lower price.

One of the better rust treatment products is the Martin-Senour Iron Etch line of steel etching products. They are designed to remove rust and some have a detergent, also. It was the use of the MS products that piqued my interest in how these products worked and if I could find a substitute that was less expensive. The Iron Etch was about $25 a quart and a large project meant more cost. What I determined was that Iron Etch, Ospho, and most of the rust removal products contained phosphoric acid. My search then became a source of phosphoric acid that was cheap, available, and did the job. To date, the best I've found is liquid water softener cleaner. It is available at all the big box stores and sells for a fraction of the commercial rust removers.

The WS cleaner is sprayed on and allowed to etch the rust off the steel. In most cases, this is a matter of hours. A second spray coat is applied and the metal rinsed with water. After this, it is important to apply a primer or sealant quickly as the steel will start to rust quickly.

A user needs to be aware of the hazards of using an etching product like this---IT IS ACID__IT WILL BURN YOUR SKIN AND IRRITATE YOUR LUNGS. If you allow the solution to drip on concrete, it will etch the surface of the concrete, not as bad as muriatic acid but it will clean and discolor the surface.

Hello Guys!
Me too searching a solution for rust removal. I just read through the previous posts. Most of you said that we need to use rust removers and the ones you mentioned are acid based. Some of you said scrubbing off the rust will be good. But, I feel using acidic removers will harm the metal even more and scrubbing will only remove the rust but what if it rusts again?
One of my friend suggested me to use Innosoft B570. He said it is a liquid cleaner that is organic and does not harm the metal. Has anyone of you tried this?

Hey y'all, it's Sue, still stuck here in GA. Researching rust removal on undercarriage of 02 Class C Gulfstream. Unable 2 do the work myself, so I'm wondering what method is usually used at a shop & how much should it cost? Of course, after the rust is removed it wud have 2 be painted. Has to go up on a lift, right? I'm in a very small town and almost no place has a large enough lift to handle it, so that limits my options.

I also need to get the brake line replaced & wud like to do everything at one time.

Thx for any advice out there...

I've been using Ospho on rust for years. I've also used it for removing rust stains from fiberglass.

OSPHO works great on surface, it converts the rust to a primer and after painting over it will last for years. 🙂

I posted a thread last week about rust, a few posters recommended OSPHO, I have found it at Amazon and am patiently awaiting its arrival. Will post results soon.. I also have a small boat trailer that has seen salt water. rust is heavy but not to bad.
I did buy a small sand blaster from Harbor Freight and it worked extremely well and fast on the fenders...

Like the above poster, I used Rust Kutter when I restored my old jeep CJ-7 and it worked great. Then I used Rust Stop spray paint from ACE Hardware as the top coat. Three years later it looks like the factory paint still. Its fantastic. It would work really good on a trailer frame I would think.

Acid doesn't eat rubber gloves....why one should wear rubber gloves while handling.

That stuff really looks interesting! I don't however know how it works and have never used it.

I have used Rust Kutter from Tractor Supply. It converts the rust to a black substance that you just leave on and then paint over if you wish. I used it on my trailer frame several years ago and painted over it with black Rustoleum paint and it still looks the same today as when I did it. Our trailer spends at least three months in the salt air of Florida every winter so I would say the stuff works well! 🙂 I applied it with a roller but they also sell a spray can. You do need to wear a respirator mask though as the fumes are quite strong when working under and around the framework.

Hi Barney, would I need to cover any rubber items or seals, hoses, etc. since its Acid based?
