Sway Bar?

We just bought a 35 foot Springdale Travel Trailer and the dealer sent us off with just a normal hitch. We are pulling the camper with a 2500 Chevy Silverado, diesel motor. A lot of people have asked why we don't have a sway bar and tell us for safety it is a must. Thoughts on sway bars? We are new at this.
  • Apparently he has no weight distribution. That is a lot of trailer for a dead weight hitch. We'll have to wait till we know what he has for sure. The suggestion that he goes to etrailer is a good one, perhaps he can give a part number of what he has.
  • go to etrailer.com and look at the weight distribution hitches there and the sway control. compare that to what you have and let us know what you have.
  • I would highly recommend a hitch with sway control - be it a friction sway bar, or something like the Hensley Arrow.

The first time you get passed by a semi or drive in a substantial crosswind, you'll wish you had some kind of sway control.
  • It is just a normal looking single ball hitch. It is a solid metal hitch, not hollow.

The dealer sent you off with a normal hitch? It is up to you to use what you think is correct.
