tell me about your toilet!

Hi all! I haven't posted in a long while. I need some toilet talk. :) We have a Dometic 310 and I'm tired of how nasty the inside (below the flapper) gets. Is there a toilet out there that has a different cavity design (I'm thinking maybe a shaft that extends all the way down to the flange, something easy to clean with the toilet brush )? The Dometic's flapper arms and molded cavity get totally mucked up, and now I'm doing a vacation rental and I'd like each new guest to not get a reminder of the last guest, so to speak.

Or do I just need to clean the cavity and flapper arms every time? I have found that it is very easy to knock off the flapper assembly with the toilet brush. And then your hands have to go down inside there. You know.

First world problems. :)

    If you use a brush devise a rope handle on it & put it over your wrist. There was a post a year or two ago about someone who dropped the brush...never to be seen again.

    I use a brass garden hose nozzle. It is one of the old fashion ones where you turn it counterclockwise to start the spray. The more you turn it the straighter the stream gets. If you screw it all the way off there is a shaft inside with two opposing holes. I take it apart and put an inline shut off on it . Then open the flapper put the hose end in and turn the water on. It produces two small strong steams of water that wash the yuck away.

    Had the Aqua Magic Style Plus and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Installed the Dometic 320 and we are very pleased with it. Wish you luck on whatever you decide.

    Look for a toilet brush with a longer handle, that will reach down inside the neck. That's what we we do. And yes, we clean the neck every time we brush the stool.

    I just clean that area with a toilet brush when I'm cleaning the rest of it. To make things easier, I installed a shut off valve ont the toilets incoming water line.

    We have the same toilet and if you don't clean it every time you dump it does get pretty icky. When DH is dumping and the water is off I hold the flap open and spray the underside and down into the tube with Scrubbing Bubbles (or Wal Mart's brand), let it sit and scrub with a toilet brush a few times. If you do that it stays clean. To me it's a cleaning issue, not that there is something wrong with the toilet.

    I have mentioned earlier about rinsing my black tank a few times to get the sensors to indicate "empty" (I use the sensors to tell me that the tank is sparkly clean ;)). In that process I prop the flush disk open and use a nozzle on the end of a garden hose to pressure clean that cavity area you are talking about. I will not use that process after every campin' trip, but will do it enough times to generally make the area appear pretty clean.

    Our Thetford Aqua Magic Style Plus also has a "ball valve" that drops straight into a tube that in our coach runs straight into the black tank. It's quite easy to clean with a standard toilet brush. The porcelain bowl is easy to keep clean as well of course.
