Tennessee is Safer than other places

London's Daily Mail slammed Tennessee as being the most violent place in the US.
This is of course ludicrous.
There listing of most dangerous places did not even mention Illinois, specifically Chicago, Southern California, The Mexican Border areas, NY, Atlanta, Broward and Dade County, Fla and Jacksonville, Savannah, or the states they are in.
Memphis has a deserved bad reputation and nothing has been done about it.
Just as in other cities there are sections of Nashville, Chattanooga,Knoxville, that I don't stop in if I have to go through.
You don't have to worry, in the most of Tn. Violent Crime reports are infrequent. I don't feel it necessary to carry a gun except if I went to those previous areas quoted.

Friends, you are safe here. We don't tolerate these kind of people.

jojolou - neither Detroit nor Flint are states. They are cities in the state of Michigan.

Other cities in Michigan include the Grosse Pointes and Bloomfield Hills, all of which have almost no crime and median incomes over $100,000. So the safety of visiting anywhere in Michigan should be viewed beyond just the two cities of Flint and Detroit.

Detroit and Flint were both great places to live when everyone had jobs. Then people stopped buying American cars, and the rest is history.

I was in Detroit not long ago with no problem. I'd go back tomorrow. We just got back from a week in the mountains of Tennessee where we visit every fall with the whole family. I believe the London paper was in serious error as I was among several thousand people who also like being in Tennessee as much as we did. In fact traffic was bumper to bumper a good deal of the time and one has to know the streets in order to save time moving about. Even the back streets of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are decent places to travel and like I said earlier, they provide a very convenient way of getting around. I just happened to think; didn't Jack the Ripper live in London?

I like being in most all of Tennessee! Heck, I lived there for 5 years, and I travel much of it to this day.

However, back when Buford Pusser was cleaning-up the State Line Gang, and for some time after it hit the news, then the national news, etc. Back in the '70s, I never felt real safe when around Selmer, TN, down US 45 to Corinth, MS. Because of the corruption around those parts as evidenced and proven 40+ years ago, it just gave me the creeps to be around there. I don't think it was ever proven why Buford Pusser's Chevrolet Corvette left the road and he died in that one-car wreck after he cleaned-up the County as a lawman. That incident has always spooked me too.

I live in the great state of Tn, near Memphis. I don't leave my house unarmed, b/c that's my right and choice. I don't think Tn is any less safe than anywhere else.

I have met a number of people in RV parks from small towns in states like TN and KY. I was amazed at their stories of how many young people in these rural areas are addicted to crystal meth. And how many many die from the drugs. So it isn't only in the big cities. Young people in rural areas are like ripe plums waiting to be picked by drug dealers. It's really sad.

When I worked for NCR in the 70's, we use to say that the Dayton Mall had 33 shoes stores ...... so the girls heading North from Tennessee could buy a pair!

At one period Tn had many, in our area but they have, maybe run to other areas. they come here from Atlanta ec to set up shop in the woods or old rental trailers and all kinds of places. A lot was mad in bottles in vehicles/ called shake and bake and kaboom. Many were found along roadways. They have a handle on them as no new people are moving in. What I see now is an old store that used to have a god name across from convenience stroe/service station. they drive into the service station and look around to see if Cops areanwhere to be seen and go across the road and come back with a coke or cigarettes or something and a usually small folded piece of white paper. Occassionally a big Fat Woman stand out there and takes money and gives paper. They don't buy anything from the gas station. How long do you think it will take cops to find out without me or someone else telling them? It's all one ethnic group. So they will have to get three or four white guys to agree to go to prison and go over and buy some of whatevr they are selling. Isn't PC so grand

It's a UK newspaper. They all are inflammatory and hyped stories. Although a bit shocking to Americans one needs to use a big BS filter when reading papers form there. If you want UK news that is less tabloidy go to the BBC or ITN.

This is the real motivation behind this lunacy. The Nanny city is trying to get people to come but nobody is paying attention because they are too busy drinking their 32 oz drinks somewhere else.
