The RV Name Game or How to Traumatize Your Customer

I have noticed in the past couple of years a trend by RV manufacturers especially Trailer manufacturers of giving really horrible names to their products.

This all reminded me of that George Carlin bit about Baseball vs Football, you know the one...where he intones in a soft and measured tone that Baseball is played in a...field...and then screams that FOOTBALL IS PLAYED ON A GRID IRON.

Well some RV names strike me this way.

Most RV's have pleasant names meant to foster good feelings and images of the outdoors and nature:

Eagle Gulf Stream, Forest River, Mallard (an oldie) Fox, and probably the best of all R Pod. Very cozy and enticing.

Then there is the recent trend to names like these:

Avenger Raptor Violator Warrior et al. These units are usually adorned with slashing, sharp edged and Dark, very Dark graphics that seem more like weapons you'd find on Game of Thrones than anything.

This is a sad turn that may speak to something deeper in our combined social conciseness. Now my guess is that no one chooses an RV based on the outside graphics however I am also sure that the wrong graphics may stop the sale of the offending model given that interiors are a wash.

But this dark and disturbing trend is carried over to the inside as well with blacks and greys and Las Vegas Wh*re house lighting.

I for one will be glad when this trend ceases. Give me the Old Hamms Beer Commercial mythic outdoors any day...Land of Sky Blue Waters...

After reading posts about new campers I would think junk or lemon would be more appropriate!

Still doesn't explain Vengeance, does it?
How many threads on outdoor lighting, loud neighbors, generators in parks and dog friendly campgrounds have you read on here...? Seems like vengeance would be the most popular model name ever!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well said!
Think the OP should own an RV with the name....."Attitude"..:(

Still want to know how the noob OP knows about lighting in a Las Vegas Wh*re House - cause there ain't no such thing.......unless he
-or someone he knows- participated in *illegal* activities in Las Vegas...:R

That is not the RV experience for everyone. It may be your paradigm. Siting beside a lake, in the forest, maybe fishing, bird watching, nature loving.

For others it is the desert, off-roading, Glamis, racing, dirt biking. Adrenaline fueled activities. Some RV's are branded to appeal to that group. What's wrong with that?

I don't believe it has anything to do with gender, age, morality, or whether someone was raised right. Although the adrenaline junkies may tend to be younger, I've also seen dirt biking families families with grandma and grandpa right there with the toddlers that can barely mount a bike. I certainly cannot fault the way those kids are raised. They are part of a family that is enjoying the outdoors together.

It ain't my thing, but I respect it anyway.

This is a common mistake, that I am very guilty of myself. And that is only seeing things from the perspective of what I like, and doing things the way I do.

IN many cases both Cars and RV's I know what the name they gave it means.. And frankly the thought is "What were they thinking".

As to color schemes. The Original buyer does make a selection. I know we did, The basic scheme here is light brown not dark.

This thread is funny! Can you old farts not find anything else to complain about?? For cripes sake, the name on your toy hauler is not going to cause people to become psychotic and start killing people with a machete!

They need an edgy name plain and simple

Describe young

The fact is these names are on the toy haulers
And in most cases they are family people
The off roading is a family hobby for many people
Instead of hiking through serene forests they go riding over rough terrain

I can think of better names like Action Adventure Thunder
And there is nothing wrong with Raptor or Warrior
But vengeance is pretty bad
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Y'all bring out some interesting topics. I had never even thought about the RV names and the subliminal messaging.

I do agree that the more aggressive sounding names and graphics seem to be associated with toy haulers. Although when I've seen them in parks or campsites I've never given it a second thought.

My guess is that they are due to movies like Mad Max. Names like Warrior, Avenger, etc., give folks a sense that these RVs will hold up through a nuclear war, etc. That they're tough and can survive anything. That's why toy haulers most often have these names - because you have tough toys and want something tough to carry it.

The graphics are a compromise. Most guys would probably prefer their tough RVs to LOOK like something from Mad Max (like it went through a nuclear war), but women won't go near something like that. So they use the graphics to try and evoke the emotions.

The interior lighting is just due to all those design shows. Old fashioned ceiling lights and lamps are out of style and dated. The style now is to use task and mood lighting. It will change back in a few generations like everything else.

It's all more prevalent now because marketing has become extremely effective in the last 30 years. For whatever reason, more and more people (of all ages) are more susceptible to marketing than ever before. To the point that they don't even know they're being marketed.
