saw this today in the Saturday edition of RV Travel Newsletter. and have posted it here for those who may not have seen it or who don't subscribe. please give it a read.

Humans have always been slobs. Many native groups lived in an are until it was just nasty and then built a new village. Our pioneer ancestor's tossed their refuse out the back door, or if they were lucky enough to have a flowing river, directly into the drink
Where would archeology be if it wasn't for slobs?
Certainly not approving of littering, but am merely pointing out that it is nothing new.

As far as the pictures showing furniture, probably a result of ridicules' charges for disposal. My local transfer station wanted 20 bucks a piece for a twin size mattress and box spring. I brought them home and burned them. Most don't have that option, and many don't have the 40 bucks!

Recently it used to be that dispersed camping was allowed anywhere within the Black Hills Nat. Forest.
Not anymore.
The most recent MVUMs ( motor vehicle use maps) restrict dispersed camping to very few areas along # FS roads, must be more than 100', not more than 300' from those roadways.
The premise from the BHNF is vehicle use Policing, refuse and restricting use to low fire risk areas, such as those with short grass, low density forest canopy, fire risk.
Our SD BHNF forest rangers report little problem with refuse, the larger concern is UTV use on and off designated trail use.
THE Side by Side UTV is the next target to restrict use of our public lands by the culprits who go mudholing and riding off trail.
Many areas in the BHNF are restricted to vehicles. under 62" wide, require a trail pass to use. In Wyoming, restrict portions under 50"
If the abuse continues, in near future UTV s recreational use will be banned
Heads up, visitors and users of our public lands, you must respect them and treat them as your own.
Your descendends will thank you

Who really knows when the picture was taken? That isn't camping trash, that's just standard household trash. Me thinks there's some back story that isn't getting any print. And "a representative of New Mexico’s Lincoln National Forest", really? And Facebook isn't exactly know for it's rigorous stance on truth and straight talk.

If you have ever been to any industrial site in AK, like the oil fields in Prudhoe Bay, or mines outside of Fairbanks, you would not feel this way. They are very conscientious of the environment and the animals that call those places home. They take incredible care to not harm wildlife and keep everything clean. If a polar bear goes anywhere near a drill site, the shut it down regardless of the cost until the bear has it's babies and leaves the area. Alaska is the last place in the world you have to worry about environmental damage.

I worked in the Tongass NF laying out timber sales for the USFS, there is PLENTY of ground in the Tongass to log w/out touching the wilderness. It's just easier and more profitable to do there.


ANWAR has no development at all. I'd like to see it some day as it is now. We HAVE oil and gas in spades - why go there?


Even Junior is against Pebble Mine.....which is plagued with corruption and is a 20 year program (lol) that is never going to end. It will also be a beachhead for further extraction in the interior. Locals don't like it and fisherman don't like it either.

Why should a Canadian company come pillage AK anyway?

Maybe not but, it won't hurt. You would be surprised how many of my friends kids / grand kids were never taught in school anything about recycling or picking up after yourself. I know that stuff should be taught at home but, if it isn't where are they going to learn it ???

I try to purchase stuff with less packaging but, you really can't ! It's all over packaged and surrounded by ****. I'm depressed at how much of the **** we buy is surrounded by **** that we then buy.

Plastic bags, in plastic bags, in plastic bags, surrounding a plastic hard shell thing, all for plastic toy.

Back to the subject - we always bring our trash home with us unless we are staying at at paid site that has garbage service. We also separate trash from recycle and always bring that home. I have yet to find a place that has recycle bins. We did a 10 day trip to Glacier this summer and had 3 bags of recycle when we got home. Nowhere we went had recycle bins so we just traveled around with it.

We have been "users" of public lands for the last 50 years. Our national parks and public lands are being trashed... tp, diapers, tampons, human waste, etc. While the story is relevant, it is decades behind the curve. It seems that the new users of public lands are just pigs with no back country ethics. They wouldn't know what real wilderness was if it bit them in the butt.

you know I was expecting garbage throught out woods, when I saw everything piled around a full dumpster my first thought was they dont empty the dumpster enought, then looking at the type of garbage I dont think it is camper, but rather people looking for free disposal of there household garbage.
