There's some nasty people out there

We went home to Augusta Georgia for the weekend and decided to take the RV with us and stay out at Lake Thurmond. Chose Ridge Road COE Campground as its been over 12 years since he had been there last. Got there Friday evening after 6pm sometime. Guy at the gate shack told me that the lady that was there for two weeks in our site had to be told to leave as it was a good bit after 2pm and she claimed she didn't know check out time was 2 pm. Didn't think it really concerned us, since she was no longer there. Get to the site and it was apparent that they didn't get a chance to clean it up. First thing after backing in, that I saw was pieces of a broken mirror all over the ground. Second thing was about an 8' partially burned log hanging over to fire pit. Then the fire pit. Looks like she was too lazy to take the garbage to the provided dumpsters at the front of the park and that she would burn her trash in the fire pit. I normally would not have too much of an issue as I would just see a bunch of ashes and not be able to tell what it was. I'm not a fire investigator, but it was apparent to what it was as it was not completely burned. Soda cans and other stuff was piled up in the fit. Also it was just not in the pit, but also a Ross the cooking grates. We weren't going to have a fire, but i didn't want to look at that all weekend and our parents were coming to visit on Saturday and I didn't want them seeing it. The next morning I rode my bike to the gate shack and explained to the attendant. They said they would send someone to clean it up and they did. The guy that came to clean it it up said the lady left so late that he didn't get a chance to clean it up. He even raked the site out and made it look nice.

Also on Friday evening, after setting up I decided to go and check out the bath house across from our site. Walked in and there is me urinal and one toilet. Someone had dedicated in the urinal. Really? I can understand that things happen you might gotta go and some one is in the other toilet and its an emergency, but would you really just leave it there? Wouldn't you have the decency to at least move it somehow to the toilet and flush it?

Nasty people.

Part of it is that there is a population segment that spends all its life in the cities, and in a city, some people can survive having absolutely no skills other than being able to put one over on others.

This segment has kids that have never heard the "pack it in, pack it out" rule. Instead, they have movies as an example where lack of any morals or respect are considered cool So, when the kids are free from 24/7 cameras in their direction, the result is a re-enactment of Lord of the Flies. These kids get into their upper teens and start hitting campgrounds under the influence of alcohol and other controlled substances.

So far, the worst thing I've personally encountered when cleaning up a campsite that I was about to occupy was an inflatable sheep. Ugh.

There's really no excuse for how some campers act. They think that since the campsite and facilities are not their's, they can do what they want and it will be someone else's problem. I get really disgusted when I see stuff like this during our travels.

We spend about 6 months in our camper each year and get to see a lot of campgrounds. Fortunately it is rare that we have a bad experience.

You really get some eye openers when you volunteer in parks...good thing we really do enjoy doing it! 🙂 Don't blame all these things on kids because that definitely is not who does it most of the time.

Have you ever seen the outside sinks in national parks that have a sign above them for 'washing dishes' so they don't wash at the campsites and throw garbage around? Well, one guy dumped his porta potty in the sink. Two days later another guy decided to take his bath in it!

Fortunately, 95% of campers are very responsible and we thank you.

Directly from someone who used to clean bathrooms: the men's rooms generally weren't bad; the worst usually being someone who overestimates his, err, aim...hot water, Clorox, paper towels, and a mop, no big deal. The woman's rooms were the worst!

I missed the point there. Campgrounds that are like this, often have the same Campers return time after time. Move on. Mgt will have to patrol more and reject returning Campers that have committed this stuff. Just part of the headaches.

Nobody, including the kids themselves, knows what a bunch of kids will think up to do next. It only takes one child to instigate a mass insurrection! Some will hang back, some will run and tell Mom, some will cry, some will get in the middle of it, and they - and you, Mom and Dad - will have no idea what will happen or even why.

Remember, hormones start going bonkers as young as 9 or 10 nowadays. Those small people are gonna be crazy until they become big people and some never work it out.

No neither one of my kids would do that. My kids were raised and trained to poop in the toilet. They were raised that its not ok to vandalize others property, whether private or public. To treat others property with respect. They were raised to do unto others as they would want to do unto them. And lastly, one of my kids is a girl and would not be pooping in the men's urinal.

They both knew/know that we would tan their hide. Just as my parents would of.

Your response and others similar responses clearly make you think it's ok to do it.

What would your responose have been had he said his kids would do that?

Kids learn from watching their parents, always makes me wonder “if the kids will do that, what are the parents doing?”

God bless park attendants and volunteers, I think campers are a great bunch for the most part; but the few bad apples in the bunch seem to be exceptionally bad.
